LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Scott Kelley upon the occasion of his
designation by the Schoharie County Chamber of Commerce as the recipient
of its 2013 Business Person of the Year Award

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend the leaders of commerce and industry whose accomplishments
contribute to the economic health and prosperity of the communities of
the State of New York, and whose purposeful endeavors as involved
members of the community serve to enhance the quality of life therein;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Scott Kelley of Kelley Farm & Garden in Cobleskill, New York, upon the
occasion of his designation by the Schoharie County Chamber of Commerce
as the recipient of its 2013 Business Person of the Year Award; and
WHEREAS, This momentous occasion will be celebrated at the chamber's
Annual Awards Banquet, to be held on Friday, March 28, 2014, at the Best
Western Banquet Room, Cobleskill, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Schoharie County Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to the
cooperative efforts of the business and residential community in
preserving the quality, character, and vitality of business in the Coun-
ty of Schoharie and, each year, proudly honors those in the community,
such as Scott Kelley, who help to further these goals; and
WHEREAS, The Schoharie County Chamber of Commerce is proud to recog-
nize Scott Kelley for his contributions to the local economy, to the
goals of the chamber, and to the quality of life in Schoharie County;
and
WHEREAS, Scott Kelley graduated from Camden High School in 1983, and
earned an associate's degree in Animal Science from SUNY Cobleskill in
1986; he received his bachelor's degree in Agricultural Economics from
Cornell University in 1988; and
WHEREAS, Upon his graduation from college, Scott Kelley began working
as a loan officer in training for Farm Credit in New Jersey, during
which time he became engaged; in 1989, he began working as a store
manager for Agway Inc.; and
WHEREAS, During this time, Scott Kelley managed the Chatham store for
a year, and subsequently became assistant manager of Cobleskill Agway;
and
WHEREAS, In 2000, Scott Kelley and his wife purchased the Agway busi-
ness and incorporated as Kelley Farm & Garden; the retail store moved
into the old P&C building in 2008, more than doubling its space and
becoming a True Value hardware and "Just Ask" Rental, while still main-
taining the Agway product line; and
WHEREAS, The company once again expanded in 2012, to include lumber
and building supplies; the rental business and power equipment sales
were moved to the old store building; and
WHEREAS, With his proven business leadership abilities and his evident
dedication to his community, Scott Kelley is the quintessential
selection for the prestigious Business Person of the Year Award; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Kathy, and their
three sons, Ryan, Matthew and Evan, all of whom feel privileged to be a
part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our attention it
is appropriate to publicly proclaim and commend them for the edification
and emulation of others; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Scott Kelley upon the occasion of his designation by the Schoharie
County Chamber of Commerce as the recipient of its 2013 Business Person
of the Year Award; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Scott Kelley.
