LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the JCY-Westchester Community Partners
and the Lincoln Park Jewish Center upon the occasion of hosting a Holo-
caust Remembrance Program, March 17-21, 2014

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who are devoted to the welfare of the community
and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
JCY-Westchester Community Partners and the Lincoln Park Jewish Center
upon the occasion of their Holocaust Remembrance Program on March 17-21,
2014 at the Lincoln Park Jewish Center in Yonkers, New York; to honor
the memory of the 12 million victims of this horrific genocide committed
in Nazi-occupied Europe during World War II, all Yonkers Public School
students, as well as the entire community, are invited; and
WHEREAS, This Holocaust Remembrance Program will feature live accounts
by survivors and a poster display entitled "Courage to Care," by the
Simon Wiesenthal Center; the posters depict the history, resistance, and
impact of the Holocaust; and
WHEREAS, The JCY-Westchester Community Partners together with the
honored guest speakers hope to encourage those attending, especially
young people, to be upstanders and not bystanders in speaking out
against of religious and racially based violence; and
WHEREAS, We learn in the aftermath of the Holocaust that indifference
to genocide cannot be tolerated; Holocaust remembrance imposes a moral
obligation to speak out; and
WHEREAS, The People of the State of New York should always remember
the horrendous atrocities committed by the Nazis from 1933-1945, so that
such horrors are never again repeated; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to recognize those
distinguished organizations whose tireless work honors the memory of
those lost during the Holocaust and reminds residents of the State of
New York what can happen to civilized people when bigotry, hatred and
indifference to human rights reign; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the JCY-Westchester Community Partners and the Lincoln Park
Jewish Center upon the occasion of hosting a Holocaust Remembrance
Program, March 17-21, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the JCY-Westchester Community Partners and the Lincoln Park
Jewish Center.
