LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the Hornell High School Varsity Cheer-
leading Team upon the occasion of winning the Section V New York Public
High School Athletic Association Class B Cheerleading Championship

WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to honor the Hornell High
School Varsity Cheerleading Team upon the occasion of winning the
Section V New York State Public High School Athletic Association
(NYSPHSAA) Class B Cheerleading Championship on Saturday, February 8,
2014, at the Gordon Field House in Rochester, New York; for their
achievements, the team will be honored at a Sports Night ceremony on
March 29, 2014; and
WHEREAS, The Hornell High School Varsity Cheerleading Team captured
their fifth consecutive Section V State Title against a competitive
field with a score of 286.2 points; they also achieved first place in
the Varsity Advanced II Division; and
WHEREAS, Additional honors for the Hornell High School Varsity Cheer-
leading Team include winning the Livingston County Championship, the
Empire Cheer Classic, and the Webster-Schroeder Tournament; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by this team is due in great
part to the efforts of Coach Regina O'Connor-Gambino, a skilled and
inspirational tutor who has been honored with the Section V Coach of the
Year Award; and
WHEREAS, Loyally and enthusiastically supported by family, fans,
friends and the community at large, the Hornell High School Varsity
Cheerleading Team has proven themselves to be an unbeatable combination
of athletic and academic talents, reflecting favorably on their communi-
ty; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when young
people who represent their community with pride and determination while
participating in competitive sports are brought to our attention, they
should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of the great
State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the Hornell High School Varsity Cheerleading Team; its members:
Anthony Cartella, Carley Argentieri, Sydney Pollizi, Kasey Corcoran,
Kaley Murphy, Taylor Meyers, Nikki Poorman, Alexis Frea, Ali Henby, Abby
Lorow, Jocelyn Brittingham, Ashlin Doorley, Grace Smith, Mikkenna
Harrington, Allison Eveland, Brittany Stoddard, Brooke Stoddard, Abbie
Shick, Marygrace Gambino, and Nick Day; and Coach Regina
O'Connor-Gambino upon the occasion of winning the Section V New York
Public High School Athletic Association Class B Cheerleading Champion-
ship; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Hornell High School Varsity Cheerleading Team, and to
Coach Regina O'Connor-Gambino.
