LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Yana Pennant upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Outstanding Service Award by the Sickle
Cell Thalassemia Patients Network
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those individ-
uals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the community and its
citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Yana
Pennant upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Outstanding Service Award by the Sickle Cell Thalassemia Patients
Network to be celebrated at its 22nd Annual Year of the Woman Dinner
Dance Benefit on Saturday, March 28, 2015, at the Grand Prospect Hall,
Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Since 1993, the Sickle Cell Thalassemia Patients Network
(SCTPN) has recognized medical professionals and individuals who have
dedicated themselves to improving the quality of life for people living
with Sickle Cell Disease and Thalassemia; and
WHEREAS, Yana Pennant earned her bachelors degree in Human Services at
Audrey Cohen College and completed her Master of Social Work at Hunter
School of Social Work in New York; she also holds an associate's degree
from City and East London College and a Certificate in Social Work from
the University of the West Indies; and
WHEREAS, A Licensed Social Worker in New York State, Yana Pennant has
devoted her life to helping others, and has worked extensively with
children with special health care needs and their families; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Yana Pennant serves as a Social Worker/Care Coor-
dinator and Transition Navigator at the Brookdale University Hospital &
Medical Center, Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and Comprehen-
sive Sickle Cell Program; in addition, she is also a psychotherapist at
the Family Renaissance: Center for Psychotherapy, a community-based
human resource and family support agency; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed woman has been called upon to contribute her
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Yana Pennant has volunteered her time working with children
in bereavement groups and has also been involved with the Big Sisters
Program; and
WHEREAS, With a sense of civic responsibility, Yana Pennant serves as
a board member for the Carlton Lockleys Bennett Foundation, and is a
member of the Parent In Education Committee at Hofstra University Step
Program; and
WHEREAS, Individuals such as Yana Pennant, who have given so selfless-
ly of their skills and dedication, have proven to be a great asset to
the health and welfare of the citizens of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Yana Pennant upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Outstanding Service Award by the Sickle Cell Thalassemia Patients
Network; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Yana Pennant.
