LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION recognizing April 4, 2015, as Halfmoon Cele-
brations Day in the Town of Halfmoon, New York

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
special events which are held to honor and celebrate the proud and
distinguished histories of the towns and villages which comprise the
noble body of this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to recognize
April 4, 2015, as Halfmoon Celebration Day in the Town of Halfmoon, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1985 by the late Gerald "Judd" Morris, Halfmoon
Celebrations is a not-for-profit organization run by town volunteers,
who, with a strong commitment to delivering family-fun programs, have
helped build the foundations of a strong neighborhood community; and
WHEREAS, The first Halfmoon Days event was organized to foster a spir-
it of togetherness and appreciation for the many wonderful aspects of
the Town of Halfmoon; shortly thereafter, the Halfmoon Celebration Asso-
ciation was formed; and
WHEREAS, The 200th Anniversary of the Town of Halfmoon in 1988 was one
of the Halfmoon Celebration Association's most memorable years; this
bicentennial featured the creation of a video "Halfmoon-A Peaceful
Passageway," and the formation of the HALFMOON HERALD, a publication
established to focus on town issues; and
WHEREAS, In addition, the 200th Anniversary celebration also featured
the creation of a new Halfmoon Business Directory, as well as numerous
community events, including Halfmoon Days in September, and a memorable
Bicentennial Ball on New Year's Eve held at Chaucer's Banquet House; and
WHEREAS, An integral part of the fabric of its community, the Halfmoon
Celebration Association continued Halfmoon Days until September 2005; at
that time, the Town was proposing a new town hall, and so the Cele-
brations Association changed directions and started a summer concert
series in the park; and
WHEREAS, Since 2004, this esteemed organization has held its Annual
Christmas Parade, which each year features numerous events including a
bonfire and fireworks; and
WHEREAS, In 2007, the Halfmoon Celebration Association purchased a
two-story inflatable movie screen and has subsequently shown "drive-in"
style movies during the summer on the Town Complex for the enjoyment of
all; and
WHEREAS, Today, Halfmoon Celebrations continues its founder's original
mission of fostering town spirit and local pride; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize April 4, 2015, as Halfmoon Celebration Day in the Town of
Halfmoon, New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Halfmoon Celebrations.
