LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION celebrating the life and accomplishments of The
Honorable Andrew S. Fusco, longtime attorney and former City Court Judge
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to publicly mourn the death of
those distinguished citizens who would devote themselves to public
service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing for the
care and welfare of the citizens of their communities and this great
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Judge Andrew S. Fusco of Auburn, New York, died on Thursday,
March 19, 2015, at the age of 62; and
WHEREAS, A native of Johnstown, New York, he was the son of Andrew F.
and Anne Sedal Fusco; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Johnstown High School, Andrew S. Fusco went on
to further his education, graduating from Hobart College in 1974, and
Albany Law School in 1978; one year later, he was hired as counsel for
the Drivers Independent Race Tracks for Central New York; and
WHEREAS, In that same year, Andrew S. Fusco married his wife, Andrea,
on April 21st, and was employed as a reporter for the
GLOVERSVILLE-JOHNSTOWN LEADER-HERALD; in this capacity, he covered crim-
inal trials, fueling his passion for law; and
WHEREAS, An astute attorney with a deep understanding of zoning and
planning laws, Andrew S. Fusco counseled the City of Auburn in several
of these instances of litigation; in 1984, he was elected as Assistant
District Attorney for Cayuga County; four years later, he assumed the
position of Auburn City Court Judge, a title he held for 10 years; and
WHEREAS, This versatile Judge, Andrew S. Fusco was well-known for his
ability to handle complex cases in both local and appellate courts; and
WHEREAS, Andrew S. Fusco served as Assistant Corporation Counsel for
the City of Auburn as well as legal counsel for several local munici-
palities while maintaining a private law practice at 52 South Street,
Auburn, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Andrew S. Fusco distinguished himself in his
profession and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to
the welfare of his neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, An avid skier, Andrew S. Fusco tackled almost every hill in
New York State; he was also passionate about fishing and was a model
train enthusiast, going as far as to recreate his hometown in the base-
ment of his home; and
WHEREAS, Among his many hobbies, Andrew S. Fusco was not only a
devoted fan of baseball, but a historian of the sport; he also collected
and restored old cars, and enjoyed all forms of motorsports; he remained
a presence as both counselor and board member for the DIRT Motorsports
Hall of Fame & Classic Car Museum in Weedsport, New York, for more than
20 years; and
WHEREAS, A gifted writer, his love of auto racing inspired him to
write three books on the subject; he also contributed to other books,
including several on baseball, motorsports and railroads; and
WHEREAS, Above all else, Andrew S. Fusco was a loving husband to his
wife, Andrea, a teacher of journalism, and a devoted father to his two
children, Jennifer Fusco, a journalist, and Adam Fusco, an attorney who
followed in his father's footsteps; and
WHEREAS, In addition to Andrea, Jennifer, and Adam, Andrew S. Fusco is
survived by his brother-in-law, Richard Franklin, as well as numerous
aunts, uncles and cousins; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Andrew S. Fusco leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations in a
moment of silent tribute to Andrew S. Fusco, whose unselfish concern for
the welfare of others enhanced the lives of those so fortunate to have
called him family, colleague and friend, and to express its deepest
condolences to his family; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Andrew S. Fusco.
