LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Maurice Greenberg upon the occasion of
his induction into the Liberty Central School District Wall of Fame on
June 27, 2015
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those distinguished citizens who devote their time and ener-
gies to the service of their community and profession, participating in
civic affairs and enhancing the character and quality of life for all
citizens; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Maurice Greenberg upon the occasion of his induction into the Liberty
Central School District Wall of Fame to be celebrated on Saturday, June
27, 2015, at the Liberty High School Media Center, Liberty, New York;
and
WHEREAS, The Liberty Central School District Wall of Fame was created
by the Board of Education as a way to honor Liberty High School alumni
who have made significant contributions to society; and
WHEREAS, Maurice Greenberg proudly served his country as a member of
the United States Army during World War II, and is a graduate of the
University of Miami; he received his LLB from New York University in
1950; and
WHEREAS, An entrepreneur and business executive, Maurice Greenberg is
the former Chairman and CEO of American International Group (AIG); under
his leadership, AIG became the largest insurance and financial services
company in the world; and
WHEREAS, A former Chairman and Director of the Federal Reserve Bank of
New York, Maurice Greenberg was appointed the first Chairman of the
International Business Leaders' Advisory Council for the Mayor of Shan-
ghai in 1990, and was appointed Senior Economic Advisor to the Beijing
Municipal Government in 1994; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Maurice Greenberg is the Chairman and CEO of C.V.
Starr & Co., Inc., and a member on the Advisory Board of the Tsinghua
School of Economics and Management, as well as the International Advi-
sory Council of the China Development Research Foundation, and the China
Development Bank; and
WHEREAS, Maurice Greenberg also serves on the President's Council on
International Activities of Yale University and is the Honorary Vice
Chairman of the Council on Foreign Relations; furthermore, he serves as
the Vice Chairman of the National Committee on United States-China
Relations; and
WHEREAS, Maurice Greenberg has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors, and has always
given of himself unstintingly; he is active on the boards of numerous
non-profit organizations working in both the United States and Asia; and
WHEREAS, The recipient of many awards and accolades for his lifetime
of outstanding service, Maurice Greenberg holds honorary degrees from a
number of universities, and was made an Honorary Citizen of Shanghai in
1997; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of his courageous military service during
World War II, Maurice Greenberg was awarded The Bronze Star Medal from
the United States, and the Ordre National de la Legion d'Honneur from
France; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his professional and communi-
ty service, a period of constructive involvement, Maurice Greenberg has
stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, and their four chil-
dren, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice
in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their profession and community,
and have shown a long and sustained commitment to excellence, certainly
have earned the recognition and applause of all citizens of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Maurice Greenberg upon the occasion of his induction into the
Liberty Central School District Wall of Fame; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Maurice Greenberg.
