LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring David D. Smith upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2015 Charter Award by St. Francis
College at its Annual Dinner

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor David D. Smith
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the 2015 Charter
Award by St. Francis College at its Annual Dinner, to be held on Wednes-
day, April 29, 2015, at the Marriott Marquis, New York, New York; and
WHEREAS, David D. Smith earned a degree in accounting at St. Francis
College, Brooklyn Heights, New York; as a member of the his college
fraternity Phi Rho Pi, he served as the social director, and was a drum-
mer with the dance band; and
WHEREAS, Upon graduating, David D. Smith proudly served his country as
a member of the United States Marine Corps Reserve for six years; and
WHEREAS, David D. Smith's interest and experience in international
finance began on assignment in Italy while he was employed with the
Olivetti Corporation; after completion of the assignment, he was
recruited by Levi Strauss & Co., working abroad as their European
Controller in Belgium; and
WHEREAS, Upon his return to the United States, David D. Smith held the
position of Adjunct Professor, teaching courses related to international
studies in the Master of Business Administration degree at St. Mary's
College, Moraga, California; and
WHEREAS, David D. Smith then moved on to General Atlantic Group Limit-
ed (GAGL), where he held the esteemed title of Chairman; throughout his
28 year career, he acquired, managed, and harvested more than 25 compa-
nies throughout the world and across a wide spectrum of industries; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor David D. Smith upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the 2015 Charter Award by St. Francis College at its Annual Dinner;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to David D. Smith.
