LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Town of
Cicero's Parks and Recreation Department on April 2, 2015
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that the quality of
life of the citizens of the State of New York is greatly enriched by the
availability of exceptional recreational facilities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 50th Anniversary of the Town of Cicero's Parks and Recreation
Department to be celebrated at a ceremony on Thursday, April 2; 2015;
and
WHEREAS, The Town of Cicero's Parks and Recreation Department is
comprised of concerned citizens who are committed to meeting the chal-
lenges of providing recreational opportunities and quality park life to
the growing Cicero community; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed organization was started in 1964, after Peter
Cataldi, a local resident, was appointed by the Cicero Town Board to
form a Commission to oversee the creation of a Parks and Recreation
Department; and
WHEREAS, Peter Cataldi supported and championed the recreation move-
ment in Cicero by establishing a first of its kind contractual agreement
in the county with two school districts for full utilization of facili-
ties year round; and
WHEREAS, Peter Cataldi then spoke to groups in the community about the
true benefits of recreation, laid the groundwork for developing partner-
ships, and approached residents regarding gifting land for a future
park; and
WHEREAS, In 1965, the Town of Cicero's Parks and Recreation Commission
was appointed and the department's first Director, Dick Bader, began his
work building the programs which formed the foundation for the outstand-
ing organization which exists today; and
WHEREAS, As Director, Dick Bader skillfully brought together the
Department's competent, enthusiastic staff and used existing facilities
and organizations to create an active all-inclusive recreation program
for both adults and youth which garnered tremendous community support;
and
WHEREAS, In addition, Dick Bader was highly active in supervising the
recreation programs, performing such tasks as securing equipment for
various activities, transporting children, holding baseball clinics,
mowing lawns and participating with youngsters in all sports; and
WHEREAS, Today, the Town of Cicero's Parks and Recreation Department
is a vital part of its community which has brought beauty and pleasure
to the residents of Cicero; and
WHEREAS, Equally commendable are the Town of Cicero's Parks and Recre-
ation Department's superbly-skilled staff, whose involvement is and has
always been characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled
enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all of their
efforts on behalf of the population they serve; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the seasons, the Town of Cicero's Parks and Recre-
ation Department has provided safe and enjoyable activities and destina-
tions much appreciated by the residents of Cicero and visitors who seek
the recreational resources of the area; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Town of Cicero's Parks and
Recreation Department; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Town of Cicero's Parks and Recreation Department.
