LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Larry Signer upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Friend of the Legal Project Award by the
Legal Project
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Larry Signer upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Friend of the Legal Project Award by the Legal Project which was cele-
brated at the Legal Project's Pro Bono Awards Luncheon on Wednesday,
October 15, 2014, at the Century House in Latham, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Friend of the Legal Project Award honors an individual,
non-profit or small business which has gone beyond the call of duty to
provide support or services which assist the Legal Project in helping
additional people in need; and
WHEREAS, Larry Signer graduated from Herbert H. Lehman College and
earned his master's degree in public administration from Baruch College;
and
WHEREAS, This esteemed man began his career working for the New York
City Court System in 1973; and
WHEREAS, In 1983, Larry Signer began working for the New York State
Division of Criminal Justice Services; he retired in 2013 after 40 years
of public service; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Larry Signer served his country as a member of
the New York State National Guard from 1970 until 2010, and was a recip-
ient of the President's Award and Medal for Meritorious Service; and
WHEREAS, Committed to giving back to his community, Larry Signer has
generously donated his time to volunteer at the Legal Project; he has
become the "go-to" legal clinic volunteer, and often steps in at the
last minute to coordinate a clinic; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his pro bono service, Larry Signer has helped to
fill the gap of unmet legal needs in New York; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Larry Signer upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Legal Project Award by the Legal Project; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Larry Signer.
