LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring David Rider, Esq. upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the Community Recognition Award by
Orange AHRC on April 9, 2015

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
David Rider, Esq. upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Community Recognition Award by Orange AHRC to be celebrated on
Thursday, April 9, 2015, at Anthony's Pier 9 in New Windsor, New York;
and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1954, Orange AHRC provides services and housing to
children and adults with developmental disabilities including those with
autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and intellectu-
al and learning disorders; its mission is to assist people with disabil-
ities in becoming respected and valued members of their communities; and
WHEREAS, Orange AHRC is focused on promoting community membership for
adults with disabilities in three major areas: employment, volunteerism,
and group affiliation; through active engagement in public life, the men
and women supported by the agency gain both respect and visibility; and
WHEREAS, A lifetime resident of Newburgh, New York, David Rider
attended local public schools, and earned a bachelors degree from
Cornell University; he earned his law degree from Yale Law School; and
WHEREAS, David Rider proudly served his country as a member of the
United States Army Intelligence branch with active duty in Vietnam,
holding the rank of First Lieutenant; and
WHEREAS, David Rider, Esq. is a founding partner of Rider, Weiner &
Frankel, P.C., and was the former Corporation Counsel for the City of
Newburgh and former Town Attorney for the Town of Newburgh; he also
served as President of the Orange County Bar Association and as member
of the 9th Judicial District Grievance Committee; and
WHEREAS, Currently, David Rider, Esq. is a member of the United States
District Court for the Southern District of New York Merit Selection
Panel, helping with the selection of federal magistrate judges; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to helping others in his community, David Rider,
Esq. has served on the St. Luke's Hospital Board of Directors for more
than 20 years, and is also on the boards of various other charitable and
service entities, including the YMCA; and
WHEREAS, In addition, David Rider, Esq. has served as general counsel
to the Orange County Land Trust, Planned Parenthood of the Mid-Hudson
Valley, and other service organizations dedicated to improving the lives
of his fellow citizens; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable man has volunteered innumerable hours of
service to organizations devoted to empowering people with disabilities
including Independent Living, Inc. of Newburgh, Occupations (now
Access), and Orange AHRC; and
WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, David Rider, Esq. is married and is
the proud father of three sons and the loving grandfather of five grand-
children; and
WHEREAS, David Rider is a member of the New York Metropolitan Opera
and enjoys performing opera himself; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a

long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor David Rider, Esq. upon the occasion of his designation as recipi-
ent of the Community Recognition Award by the Orange AHRC; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to David Rider, Esq.
