LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 100th Anniversary of P.S. 94
David D. Porter School, Little Neck, New York, on May 29, 2015

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those institutions of true purpose and high achievement whose
exemplary programs and accomplishments clearly demonstrate an enduring
pursuit of excellence in the education of the youth of this noble Empire
State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 100th Anniversary of P.S. 94 David D. Porter School, Little
Neck, New York, to be celebrated on Friday, May 29, 2015; and
WHEREAS, In 1913, construction began on the P.S. 94 David D. Porter
School, one of the few mission style buildings constructed in that era
by renowned Architect C.B.J. Snyder; and
WHEREAS, In September of 1914, the school opened its door to students
for the first time; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the last century P.S. 94 has lived up to its
mission to foster a collaboration among parents, students and staff to
enrich the learning experience of each child through high expectations,
academic rigor and a thinking curriculum; and
WHEREAS, In an atmosphere rich with cultural diversity, it provides a
differentiated program of instruction that sets the highest standards
for all its children while celebrating individuality and encouraging
creativity, preparing them to meet the academic and technological chal-
lenges of both the present and future; and
WHEREAS, Ably led by Principal Laura Avakians, P.S. 94 David D. Porter
School is one of 22 public elementary schools in New York City Geograph-
ic District No. 26 which serves approximately 400 students grades
Kindergarten-5; and
WHEREAS, The steadfast and unyielding commitment of parents, educators
and administrators to provide the highest quality education for students
has become the hallmark and tradition of P.S. 94 David D. Porter School;
and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is very pleased to have this opportu-
nity to salute P.S. 94 David D. Porter School of Little Neck for its
long history of purposeful endeavor which has greatly benefited the
community of Queens, New York, and to wish this worthy organization
continued success in future years; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of P.S. 94 David D. Porter School,
Little Neck, New York, on May 29, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Principal Laura Avakians, P.S. 94 David D. Porter School.
