LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Superintendent William P. Tammaro upon
the occasion of his retirement after more than 30 years of distinguished
service to the field of education
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and character
whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in this great
State; and
WHEREAS, The result of many individual efforts, the excellence and the
success of the Delaware-Chenango-Madison-Otsego (DCMO) BOCES is due in
large part to the efforts of Superintendent William P. Tammaro; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Superintendent
William P. Tammaro upon the occasion of his retirement after more than
30 years of distinguished service to the field of education; and
WHEREAS, William P. Tammaro earned a Bachelor's degree in Communi-
cation Design from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1976; he
went on to earn his Master's degree in Education in Helping Services
from the Graduate School of Education and Human Development at the
University of Rochester in 1981; and
WHEREAS, In addition, he holds Permanent Certification in both School
District Administration and Guidance through the State Education Depart-
ment; and
WHEREAS, A true inspiration and mentor, William P. Tammaro has served
as the Superintendent of the Delaware-Chenango-Madison-Otsego (DCMO)
BOCES of Norwich, New York, for the past six years; he will officially
retire from this esteemed position on Friday, April 3, 2015; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure with DCMO BOCES, William P. Tammaro led
innovative programs which integrated STEM education, opening doors to
students to become college and career ready; among his countless accom-
plishments was his active involvement in the advancement of technology;
and
WHEREAS, The only District Superintendent certified on School Board
Governance by the State Education Department, William P. Tammaro used
this knowledge to train new board members and assist with multiple board
governance issues; and
WHEREAS, In his capacity as District Superintendent for the Delaware-
Chenango-Madison-Otsego BOCES, William P. Tammaro was instrumental in
the success of the 16 component school districts he oversaw, which serve
more than 13,000 students, 1,200 teachers and administrators, and are
located in four counties; and
WHEREAS, A caring, competent and committed leader, William P.
Tammaro's character and integrity are the hallmarks of his life and work
as a school district leader, a community volunteer and as a person; his
quiet approach and caring attitude creates confidence and loyalty among
colleagues and friends alike; and
WHEREAS, The four county area is indeed fortunate and blessed to have
such a dedicated and respected educational leader for more than four
decades; his wisdom and contributions reached into every classroom, and
he truly made a difference in the lives of those lucky enough to have
worked with him; and
WHEREAS, Superintendent William P. Tammaro has continually demon-
strated an impressive dedication, an unparalleled devotion and an
unremitting enthusiasm for the quality of the educational programs and
opportunities offered at the Delaware-Chenango-Madison-Otsego BOCES for
the benefit of its faculty and students, as well as for the entire
community; and
WHEREAS, In completing his service as a District Superintendent,
William P. Tammaro leaves behind more than mere bricks and mortar; he
leaves behind a legacy to the residents of the community and to future
generations of its students; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Superintendent William P. Tammaro upon the occasion of his
retirement, and for his significant contributions to education in New
York State; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Superintendent William P. Tammaro.
