LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Filomena Lombardi upon the occasion of
her designation as a 2015 Long Island Center for Business and Profes-
sional Women Achiever

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding individuals who distinguish themselves through their excep-
tional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Filomena Lombardi upon the occasion of her designation as a 2015 Long
Island Center for Business and Professional Women Achiever; this auspi-
cious occasion will be celebrated at the Center's 36th Annual Achievers'
Awards Gala, to be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2015; and
WHEREAS, For more than 35 years, the Long Island Center for Business
and Professional Women has been dedicated to advancing women in busi-
ness, industry and the professions; and
WHEREAS, The Long Island Center for Business and Professional Women
celebrate and honor women who are leaders, mentors and who have opened
doors for other women to help foster their rise in business, the
professions and in their community; Filomena Lombardi is one such indi-
vidual; and
WHEREAS, Born in Naples, Italy, Filomena Lombardi immigrated to the
United States in 1968; in 1976, her family opened Mamma Lombardi's, the
original family pizzeria where Filomena began at a young age to acquire
the experience needed to operate a business; and
WHEREAS, In 1988, Filomena Lombardi completed her four year degree,
earning a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting from
Dowling College; she went on to obtain her CPA, and in 1994, she
returned to the family business, acting as CFO; over the past 20 years,
she has been instrumental in growing the Lombardi Family Enterprises;
and
WHEREAS, In 1997, Filomena Lombardi was diagnosed with an incurable
autoimmune disease, Multiple Sclerosis; subsequently, in 2012, she
created the Cure Multiple Sclerosis Foundation of New York to help raise
awareness and funds for research that will introduce healthier and harm-
less medical treatments; and
WHEREAS, Also in 2012, Filomena Lombardi opened an adjunct to the
Foundation, MS CUREiosity's Closet, a high end consignment boutique in
St. James, New York, whose proceeds go to the Foundation; this Boutique
has proven to be a community asset, where locals come to shop and learn
what Multiple Sclerosis is and how they can help get closer to a cure;
and
WHEREAS, In addition, Filomena Lombardi has been instrumental in the
creation of the first research study on the use of Hyperbaric Oxygen
Therapy in the treatment of Multiple Sclerosis; and
WHEREAS, In 2011, Filomena Lombardi, along with her husband, acquired
the Long Island development Rights to a popular California franchise,
Jamba Juice, with plans of developing several stores on Long Island; in
2012, their first Jamba Juice storefront opened in Stony Brook, New
York, and two years later, another opened in Syosset, New York; and
WHEREAS, In April 2014, Filomena Lombardi opened Farm to Table Cater-
ing by Filomena, offering a full menu of fresh local produce which

caters to all tastes and diets; this worthy business caters off premises
weddings and other events at a destination location; and
WHEREAS, Active in her community as well as her profession, Filomena
Lombardi has been a member of the Stony Brook Development Council from
2009 to 2013; in 2012, she served on the search committee for the newly
appointed Stony Brook Medicine's CEO; she also serves as trustee on The
Long Island Museum of American Art, History and Carriages in Stony
Brook; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Filomena Lombardi is a board member of the AHRC
Suffolk Foundation, and serves on the Advisory Board for the Center for
Cost Effective Government; and
WHEREAS, In 2013, in recognition of her achievements and her dedi-
cation to community, Filomena Lombardi was named Woman of the Year in
Business by the VILLAGE TIMES HERALD; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Scott, and their
two daughters, Victoria and Christina, all of whom feel privileged to be
a part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their profession and community,
and have shown a long and sustained commitment to excellence, certainly
have earned the recognition and applause of all citizens of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Filomena Lombardi upon the occasion of her designation as a 2015
Long Island Center for Business and Professional Women Achiever; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Filomena Lombardi.
