LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Daryl R. Pierson posthumously upon the
occasion of his designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest
honor bestowed upon an individual by the New York State Senate

WHEREAS, The quality and sanctity of community life are cherished
values, worthy of safeguarding, and this Legislative Body is moved to
honor those individuals who serve to preserve and protect such values,
lauding particularly their unwavering courage and dedication in the
daily performance of their duties; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to convey its grate-
ful appreciation and heartfelt regret in recognition of the loss of
courageous individuals who dedicated their purposeful lives and careers
to serve and protect; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Daryl R. Pier-
son posthumously upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of a
Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New
York State Senate; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by a
resolution in 2014 and is awarded to individuals who have merited
special commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on
behalf of their fellow New Yorkers; and
WHEREAS, Daryl R. Pierson lived his life with great dignity and genu-
ine grace, always demonstrating a deep and continuing concern for the
welfare of others in the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, On September 3, 2014, Daryl R. Pierson made the ultimate
sacrifice while faithfully executing his responsibilities as a police
officer, serving his community and this great Empire State with dedi-
cation, loyalty and compassion; and
WHEREAS, Daryl R. Pierson is survived by his wife, Amy, and their two
children, Christian and Charity; his parents, Steve R. and Deborah J.
Pierson; three siblings, Patty (Greg), Brett, and Julie; and his mother
and father-in-law, Mitch and Joan Evans; as well as several nieces,
nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those dedicated
public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preservation
of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full praise for
their commitment and noble endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Individuals such as Daryl R. Pierson devoted to improving the
quality of life for others, enabling them to build lives of dignity and
self-worth are deserving of the highest praise and recognition; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Daryl R. Pierson posthumously upon the occasion of his designation
as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an
individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Daryl R. Pierson.
