LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Ace Coloma-Militar upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the prestigious Mother's Day Award by
the National Action Network and Gateway Christian Center
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals within the State of New York who give of
their time and energies in support of spiritual endeavors which aim to
benefit the community at large; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Honorable Ace Coloma-Militar upon the occasion of her designation as
recipient of the prestigious Mother's Day Award by the National Action
Network and Gateway Christian Center, to be celebrated at its Government
Gala Awards Ceremony, on Sunday, May 10, 2015, at Jericho Terrace,
Mineola, New York; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious award is given to women who have demonstrated
exemplary works, services, and commitment to the people of their commu-
nities; Ace Coloma-Militar truly deserves this honor for her contrib-
utions to society; and
WHEREAS, Ace Coloma was born to Mr. and Mrs. Adolfo Coloma in Manila,
Philippines; as a student, she organized a Sunday School Class in Cauyan
Church for the children in her family, as well as the neighborhood chil-
dren; and
WHEREAS, Ace Coloma achieved the rank of Valedictorian in her high
school class; in 1979, she went on to receive her Bachelor's degree in
Communication Arts at the University of the Philippines, Los Banos; and
WHEREAS, While in college, Ace Coloma participated in Sama-sining
Choir and Teatro, Com Arts Society, and held the position of Treasurer
for Beta Kappa Sigma Sorority; and
WHEREAS, In 1984, Ace Coloma married Malthie Militar, and they had
three wonderful boys; she dedicated her time and energies to taking care
of her family; therefore, she was the proud recipient of the Parent of
the Year award by the Pio Del Pilar Elementary School in Manila; and
WHEREAS, While employed with the Department of Agrarian Reform, Ace
Coloma-Militar spearheaded the organization of a Credit Union, and was
elected to the position of Chairwoman; she was selected to be one of the
Women Leaders in the office, guiding the group in the General Assembly
at the Beijing +5 Plan of Action held at the United Nations, in New York
City; and
WHEREAS, Ace Coloma-Militar served as President of the Women's Baptist
Union for the province of Oriental Mindoro; she also sponsored and
organized the Samahan ng mga Kababaihang Magsasaka, a women's farmers
group, where she coordinated activities and educated the women about
self-sufficiency; and
WHEREAS, Ace Coloma-Militar and her family moved to New York City; in
2002, she was employed as a Paralegal, and then went on to serve as a
UPK Lead Teacher at the Horace E. Greene Child Care Center, in Brooklyn
for two years; and
WHEREAS, Ace Coloma-Militar then worked at Originals of Jamaica Day
Care Center, in Queens for seven years; she was also a licensed Real
Estate Agent with Douglas Elliman; and
WHEREAS, Known as Mother Teresa in her community, Ace Coloma-Militar
helped children with their studies, fed and housed homeless families,
bought school supplies for the children of her church, helped the unem-
ployed find jobs, and financially supported those in need; and
WHEREAS, Today, Ace Coloma-Militar is a faithful member of her church
and serves as an Education Director at Help USA, as well as a member of
the Association of Fil-American Teachers Association (AFTA), where she
received a service award; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Ace Coloma-Militar upon the occasion of her designation as recipi-
ent of the prestigious Mother's Day Award by the National Action Network
and Gateway Christian Center; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ace Coloma-Militar, the National Action Network, and the
Gateway Christian Center.
