LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Neboysha R. Brashich upon the occasion
of his designation as recipient of the 2015 Distinguished Trustee Award
by the United Hospital Fund of Eastern Long Island Hospital
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Neboysha R.
Brashich upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the 2015
Distinguished Trustee Award by the United Hospital Fund of Eastern Long
Island Hospital, to be celebrated with an Awards Luncheon on Monday, May
11, 2015, at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1991, this auspicious award recognizes
extraordinary service, leadership and a deep commitment to not-for-pro-
fit hospitals in the New York Region; and
WHEREAS, Neboysha R. Brashich began serving on the Board of Trustees
at Eastern Long Island Hospital (ELIH) in 1993, and served as Chairman
of the Board from 1998 to 2003; prior to this appointment, he was an
active member of the Development/Community Relations Committee where he
co-chaired several Summer Galas and helped establish a wellness program
for seniors; and
WHEREAS, A natural leader, Neboysha R. Brashich first served as Treas-
urer on the Board of Trustees and Chairman of the Finance Committee
before serving as Chairman of the Board for three consecutive terms; in
that capacity he represented ELIH on the Peconic Health Corporation
Board, a former parent corporation of ELIH; and
WHEREAS, Well-respected by his peers, Neboysha R. Brashich has been
actively involved in many community organizations on the North Fork; his
leadership roles have included Chairman of the Southold Transportation
Commission, Chairman of the North Fork Promotion Council, Co-chair of
the Arts in Southold Town and Director of the East End Transportation
Council; and
WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous awards and accolades, Neboysha R.
Brashich was recognized by the Suffolk County Legislature in 1999 as
Volunteer of the Year, and was awarded the prestigious Theodore Roose-
velt Award, established by the Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council, for his
extraordinary contributions to his community hospital in 2000; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Neboysha R. Brashich served as Governor,
Secretary/Treasurer and Vice-President on the HANYS/Healthcare Trustees
of New York State Board as well as the Committee on Governance (COG)
while serving on the COG Leadership Committee for the American Hospital
Association; and
WHEREAS, As a Government Affairs Representative, Neboysha R. Brashich
is a steadfast advocate for Eastern Long Island Hospital; he strongly
believes in sensible healthcare reform and has proactively sought
solutions for keeping essential services local; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, he has tirelessly worked to coordinate efficien-
cies with other community and state hospitals in the area while reducing
the duplication of services on the East End of Long Island based on the
recommendations of the Berger Commission; and
WHEREAS, Neboysha R. Brashich has been a driving force in the communi-
ty and a great ally for Eastern Long Island Hospital for the past 25
years; his healthcare advocacy efforts have been instrumental in keeping
key health services at ELIH for the residents of the North Fork and
Shelter Island; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Prunella, and their
two sons, as well as seven grandchildren, all of whom feel privileged to
be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Neboysha R. Brashich has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Neboysha R. Brashich upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the 2015 Distinguished Trustee Award by the United Hospital
Fund of Eastern Long Island Hospital; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Neboysha R. Brashich.
