LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 60th Anniversary of Temple
Hillel of North Woodmere, New York, to be celebrated May 17, 2015
WHEREAS, Religious institutions, and the many spiritual, social and
educational benefits they confer, play a vital role in the development
of the moral fabric of a responsible citizenry; and
WHEREAS, It is the tradition of this State and this Nation to pay
tribute to those institutions and individuals who have contributed to
the ethical and spiritual values of their communities; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes pleasure in commemorating the
60th Anniversary of Temple Hillel of North Woodmere, New York, to be
celebrated at its Annual Journal Dinner Dance on Sunday, May 17, 2015;
and
WHEREAS, Established in 1955, the mission of Temple Hillel is to
fulfill the Jewish religious, educational, social and service needs of
the Valley Stream/Five Towns Jewish Community who identify with Conserv-
ative Judaism, and to take its place in the area as a leading and caring
religious congregation which supports the greater Jewish community's
social service needs; and
WHEREAS, Temple Hillel aims to enforce, strengthen and promote the
precepts of Conservative Judaism; to encourage adult and youth education
among its members, emphasizing the Hebrew language, Jewish history and
traditions and religious customs and ceremonies; to encourage members'
understanding and appreciation for the importance of attending and
participating in religious services; to support charitable and benevo-
lent causes within the temple, as well as local, national and interna-
tional Jewish communities; and to encourage and strengthen members, ties
to the State of Israel; and
WHEREAS, Temple Hillel offers a multigenerational, active congregation
affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism; an award-
winning religious School of Excellence; adult education programs; social
and educational programs for children, including a newly created Post
B'nai Mitzvah Program titled "Teen Issues through a Jewish Lens"; an
award winning USY program, as well as Kadima and Pre-Kadima programs;
and an active Men's Club, Sisterhood and Parent's Association, to name a
few; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of Rabbi Steven M. Graber who
became part of the Temple Hillel community in August of 2003, this vital
synagogue stands on the threshold of tomorrow, prepared to meet the
challenges of the coming decades while retaining that spiritual resolve
of its founders; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of
enduring religious institutions and to bring such institutions to the
attention of the people of this Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 60th Anniversary of Temple Hillel of North Woodmere, New
York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Rabbi Steven M. Graber, Temple Hillel of North Woodmere, New
York.
