LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Sydney's Cycling Sauces upon the occa-
sion of its designation as recipient of the Youth Award by the Bethlehem
Chamber of Commerce
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Sydney's Cycling Sauces upon the occasion of their designation as recip-
ients of the Youth Award by the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce to be
celebrated at its 30th Annual Awards Dinner on Friday, April 17, 2015,
at the Cyprus Shrine Center, Glenmont, New York; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1957, the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce works
on a local and regional level to advance economic development and foster
a positive business environment; it offers resources for residents,
business, recreation and relocation in Bethlehem and the surrounding
region; and
WHEREAS, The Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce's Youth Award recognizes
young residents who have contributed to the region either through busi-
ness or volunteer endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Sydney's Cycling Sauces is a new student-run business endeav-
or driven by a team of four students at Bethlehem Central High School
and led by Principal Scott Landry as CEO; and
WHEREAS, Headquartered in Principal Landry's office, Sydney's Cycling
Sauces produces two varieties of pasta sauce, Original Recipe and Clara-
nara; the students have been responsible for all aspects of the business
from the launch and structure of the organization, to production,
marketing, shipping and managing the online web store; and
WHEREAS, The launch of Sydney's Cycling Sauces has been highly
successful, with batches selling out in record time, encouraging the
team members' desire to continue to grow and expand the company in the
future; in addition, the students are working on moving to a sustainable
model and producing their own ingredients for future production; and
WHEREAS, All proceeds from Sydney's Cycling Sauces support Sydney's
Spinners, who will ride to benefit the local chapter of the American
Diabetes Association at the Tour de Cure in Saratoga; and
WHEREAS, Matt Slatcher, Head Chef and culinary expert at Sydney's
Cycling Sauces, has trained at the BOCES Culinary Program for the past
two years, and will be attending Schenectady County Community College in
the fall, majoring in the culinary arts; and
WHEREAS, Clara Racette is the Chief Financial Officer and graphic
designer of the company; she will be attending Oregon State University,
majoring in Food Science and Chemistry; and
WHEREAS, Sydney's Cycling Sauces Chief of Operations and legal coun-
sel, Sam Rogers, is planning to attend college and major in Interna-
tional Studies; and
WHEREAS, Kitchen Supervisor Caroline Ayres, a junior at Bethlehem
Central High School, will assume leadership of the company after her
senior partners have graduated; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, the student members of Sydney's
Cycling Sauces have stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend young
individuals of outstanding character, who have shown initiative and
commitment toward constantly pursuing higher goals for themselves, and
acting as role models of leadership to be emulated by both peers and
young people; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the members of Sydney's Cycling Sauces upon the occasion of
their designation as recipients of the Youth Award by the Bethlehem
Chamber of Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the members of Sydney's Cycling Sauces and principal Scott
Landry.
