LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the Inaugural Little Italy Festival
in the Town of Gates to be celebrated June 12-13, 2015

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to call attention to
those events which serve to enhance the cultural enrichment of the State
of New York and preserve the heritage of Italian-Americans; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 2015 Little Italy Festival in the Town of Gates, to be cele-
brated June 12-13, 2015; and
WHEREAS, The Little Italy Festival will recognize the Italian communi-
ty's giving spirit, as well as its long-standing existence, significant
contribution, and importance in the city of Rochester, and the Town of
Gates; and
WHEREAS, The Little Italy Festival in the Town of Gates welcomes
everyone to come for a taste of Italy in western New York, and to help
raise funds to benefit three local charities, including Alternatives for
Battered Women, Catholic Family Center, and Open Door Mission; and
WHEREAS, The Little Italy Festival is a community event which provides
a uniquely warm environment in which to enjoy the music, dance, arts,
crafts, flavors, colors, laughter and love of Italian heritage; and
WHEREAS, On Saturday, June 13, 2015, there will be a special Holy Mass
officiated by Father Claudio Piccinini, from Ascoli Piceno, Italy, at
St. Theodore's Church, Rochester, New York, followed by a Grand Proc-
ession to the Gates Memorial Park; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to recognize those
important events which remind us of the rich and diverse heritage of our
great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Events which celebrate diversity and peace contribute to
fulfilling our Nation's great legacy of equal opportunity for all, and
do so profoundly enhance our shared commitment to freedom and justice;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the Inaugural Little Italy Festival in the Town of Gates,
June 12-13, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Little Italy Festival Committee.
