LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 110th Anniversary of The Neigh-
borhood Center, Inc., of Utica, New York

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals and organizations it wishes to recognize for
their valued contributions to the success and progress of society and
publicly acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic
humanity among us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the
110th Anniversary of The Neighborhood Center, Inc., of Utica, New York,
in conjunction with the celebration of the opening of its new child care
playground; and
WHEREAS, The Neighborhood Center, Inc., of Utica, New York, strives to
enrich the lives of individuals and families through cooperative oppor-
tunities, resources, and advocacy; its members believe in embracing
cultural diversity, promoting empowerment, and fostering responsible
citizenship; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1905, as an agency related to the General
Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church, The Neighbor-
hood Center began its illustrious tradition of service as a settlement
house assisting immigrants in filing citizenship papers; and
WHEREAS, By 1936, this esteemed organization was providing the first
kindergarten classes in Utica, as well as homemaking classes for members
of the community; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the years, The Neighborhood Center, Inc. continued
to expand and provide services to the increasingly diverse population,
gaining national recognition for its outstanding efforts to help those
in need; and
WHEREAS, Today, The Neighborhood Center, Inc., offers a full range of
outreach, preventative, developmental and therapeutic human services for
nearly 20,000 people in Utica and the surrounding areas; the majority of
the people served are children and their families; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 110th Anniversary of The Neighborhood Center, Inc., of
Utica, New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Neighborhood Center, Inc., of Utica, New York.
