LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Superintendent John P. Latini upon the
occasion of his retirement after many years of distinguished service as
an educator
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and character
whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in this great
State; and
WHEREAS, The result of many individual efforts, the excellence and the
success of the Minisink Valley Central School District is due in large
part to the efforts of Superintendent John P. Latini; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Superinten-
dent John P. Latini upon the occasion of his retirement after many years
of distinguished service as an educator; he will officially retire on
June 30, 2015; and
WHEREAS, At the young age of 20, John P. "Jack" Latini taught CCD
classes to high school students at St. Mary's Church, Port Jervis, New
York; inspired by his success, he decided to become a teacher; and
WHEREAS, In December of 1974, John P. Latini successfully completed
his student teaching assignment at Anthony J. Veraldi Junior High
School, Middletown, New York; the school hired him full-time as a social
studies teacher for grades 7-9, a position he held until December of
1983; and
WHEREAS, John P. Latini then began his administrative career at the
Warwick Valley Middle School, Warwick, New York, serving as Assistant
Principal; in August of 1992, he was promoted to the position of Princi-
pal of the Port Jervis High School, Port Jervis, New York; and
WHEREAS, From August of 1999 until June of 2010, John P. Latini was
employed as the High School Principal at Minisink Valley Central School
District; he then accepted the esteemed title of Superintendent of the
Minisink Valley Central School District; and
WHEREAS, In completing his service as Superintendent, John P. Latini
leaves behind more than mere bricks and mortar; he leaves behind a lega-
cy to the residents of the Minisink Valley community and to future
generations of its students; and
WHEREAS, In a career which spanned four decades, John P. Latini has
continually demonstrated an impressive dedication, an unparalleled
devotion and an unremitting enthusiasm for the quality of the educa-
tional programs and opportunities offered throughout Orange County for
the benefit of its faculty and students, as well as for the entire
community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend John P. Latini upon the occasion of his retirement after many
years of distinguished service as an educator; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Superintendent John P. Latini.
