LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the College of St. Rose Women's
Soccer Team upon the occasion of its outstanding 2014 Season
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, nurtured by
dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate the
College of St. Rose Women's Soccer Team upon the occasion of its
outstanding 2014 Season; and
WHEREAS, The 2014 College of St. Rose Women's Soccer Team compiled an
extraordinary season; its overall record was an outstanding 21-1-3,
including a 15-1-2 regular season record, and a superlative 11-1-2
conference performance; and
WHEREAS, Capturing the 2014 Northeast-10 Conference Tournament Champi-
onship for the seventh time in eight years, the College of St. Rose
Golden Knights also won the NCAA East Region Championship for the sixth
time in seven seasons to advance to the NCAA Division II Soccer Champi-
onships; and
WHEREAS, The College of St. Rose Women's Soccer Team also reached the
Final Four NCAA Division II Championships for the sixth time in seven
seasons, achieving a tied score in regulation against the National Cham-
pions; and
WHEREAS, The No. 1 ranked team in the nation for much of the 2014
season, the Golden Knights also led the Northeast-10 conference in
numerous categories, including goals, assists, fewest goals allowed, and
lowest goals against average; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, the College of St. Rose Women's Soccer Team was
named the NSCAA Academic All-American Team for the 14th consecutive
year; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by this team is due in great
part to the efforts of Head Coach Laurie Darling Gutheil, a skilled and
inspirational tutor, respected for her ability to develop potential into
excellence; and
WHEREAS, The hallmarks of the Golden Knights, from the opening game of
the season to participation in the Final Four NCAA Division II Champion-
ships, were a sisterhood of athletic ability, of good sportsmanship, of
honor and of scholarship, demonstrating that these team players are
second to none; and
WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, the College of St. Rose
Women's Soccer Team members have proven themselves to be an unbeatable
combination of talents, reflecting favorably on their school; and
WHEREAS, Head Coach Laurie Darling Gutheil and her coaching staff have
done a superb job in guiding, molding and inspiring the 2014 College of
St. Rose Women's Soccer Team members toward their goals; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and Head Coach Laurie Darling Gutheil and the College of
St. Rose Women's Soccer Team's outstanding athletes have clearly made a
contribution to the spirit of excellence which is a tradition of their
school; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the 2014 College of St. Rose Women's Soccer Team, its
members: Madison Taylor, Ashley Homer, Silvana Giovannone, Nicole
Shively, Emily Opalinski, Carmelina Puopolo, Courtney Benson, Amanda
Vasquez, Morgan Burchhardt, Emily Meeks, Roxana Hernandez, Sydney
O'Shaughnessy, Kayley Jansen, Jourdan Thompson, Sammy Blizzard, Kristin
Carr, Joani Medero, Megan Reese, Emily Benjamin, Meeghan Arno, Quinn
Massaroni, Gianna Smith, Micheala Phillips, Torez Ramsey, La'Quilla
Upton, Amanda Roney, Jennifer Busk, Raven Small, Ojwanna Wilson, Jaime
Durant, Head Coach Laurie Darling Gutheil, and Assistant Coaches Jason
Gutheil, Amanda Deck, Kailey Egbert, Jim Lennox, Renae Ransdell, Britta-
ny Godin, Adam Favro, Caleb Nelson and Laura Taylor on their outstanding
season and overall team record; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the members of the 2014 College of St. Rose Women's Soccer
Team, and to Head Coach Laurie Darling Gutheil.
