LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending John J. Kelliher upon the occasion of
his designation for special recognition by St. Catherine's Center for
Children on May 1, 2015

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life of the communities of New York State are
reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of organizations and
individuals who devote themselves to the welfare of the community and
its citizens; and
WHEREAS, John J. Kelliher has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
John J. Kelliher upon the occasion of his designation for special recog-
nition by St. Catherine's Center for Children, to be celebrated at the
7th Annual SCCCript & SCCCreen Gala -- South Pacific, on Friday, May 1,
2015; and
WHEREAS, On May 25, 1886, a group of Roman Catholic nuns, the Daugh-
ters of Charity, opened a home for sick orphans at historic Schuyler
Mansion in the city of Albany, New York; in 1913, the orphanage was
moved to 40 North Main Avenue, and was officially named the St.
Catherine's Center for Children; and
WHEREAS, St. Catherine's Center for Children provides a comprehensive
range of human services designed to offer hope, foster growth, and
improve the lives of the children and families it serves; and
WHEREAS, The dedicated staff of St. Catherine's Center is pleased to
recognize long-time friend, John J. Kelliher for his steadfast support
for Albany institutions that make the Capital Region a better place to
live; his lifelong commitment to organizations that contribute to the
enhancement of life for so many people, in business, human services and
the arts, is worthy of special honor; and
WHEREAS, A native of Albany, John "Jake" Kelliher graduated from the
Vincentian Institution, and then went on to earn his degree from Holy
Cross College, Notre Dame, Indiana; he furthered his education by
obtaining his Juris Doctor degree from Northeastern University School of
Law in Boston; and
WHEREAS, In addition, John Kelliher completed the certificate program
at the JFK School of Government at Harvard University, for Senior Execu-
tives in state and local government; and
WHEREAS, For many years, John Kelliher held numerous positions in
various governmental entities, including Deputy Commissioner and General
Counsel of the New York State Department of Commerce, Assistant Counsel
to the New York State Governor, Assistant Counsel to the Governor's
Office of Employee Relations, and Assistant Counsel to the State Univer-
sity of New York; and
WHEREAS, From 1982-1995, John Kelliher held the position of Secretary
of the New York State Public Service Commission; and
WHEREAS, After leaving state service, John Kelliher was employed as
the Compliance Counsel and Director of Corporate Relations for Bullard,
McLeod & Associates, a family-owned investment advisory firm; he offi-
cially retired from this position in 2003; and
WHEREAS, John J. Kelliher has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Active in his community, John Kelliher has been a member of
numerous Boards of Directors, including St. Catherine's Center for Chil-

dren, the Hospitality House, Children and Family Services, Consultation
Center of the Diocese of Albany, and Capital Repertory Theatre, Historic
Albany Foundation, Palace Theater, Teresian House Foundation, The Arse-
nal Business and Technology Partnership, Washington Park Neighborhood
Association, Holy Cross Club of Eastern NY, Advisory Board of Government
Law Center at Albany Law School; today, he is an active member of many
of these vital organizations; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, John J. Kelliher has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout has been his wife, Christine Miles Kelli-
her, who feels privileged to be a part of his life and rejoices in his
achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which John J. Kelliher has displayed
throughout his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend John J. Kelliher upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by St. Catherine's Center for Children on May 1,
2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to John J. Kelliher.
