LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Federation of African-American
Civil Service Organizations, Inc. upon the occasion of hosting its Scho-
larship Awards Dinner Dance on April 24, 2015
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those endur-
ing organizations which devote their purposeful energies to improving
the quality and dignity of life of those they serve, to preserving their
heritage, and to fostering cultural pride; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in accord with its long-stand-
ing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend the
Federation of African-American Civil Service Organizations, Inc. upon
the occasion of hosting its Scholarship Awards Dinner Dance on Friday,
April 24, 2015, at Antun's in Queens Village, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Federation of African-American Civil Service Organiza-
tions, Inc. (FAACSO) is an association of accredited African-American
Civil Service Organizations, whose members have pledged themselves to
the high principle of true patriotism and to the service of their Nation
and communities; and
WHEREAS, FAACSO was founded in 1954, following conferences between the
officers of five different African-American organizations in federal,
state and municipal agencies in the New York Metropolitan area; today,
it consists of 15 such organizations with a combined membership of
35,000 individuals; and
WHEREAS, This vital organization works diligently to fulfill its goals
of promoting understanding, friendship and cooperation among affiliate
organizations; providing assistance in the resolution of organizational
difficulties and problems; supporting the social and cultural activities
of each organization by reciprocation; and offering its members assist-
ance in the attainment of their stated goals, as well as the achievement
of general recognition and acceptance; and
WHEREAS, In addition, FAACSO strives for the elevation of the socio-e-
conomic level of civil service employees; furthermore, it supports the
plans of action of its member organizations and supports their desig-
nated candidates for positions on policy-making levels; and
WHEREAS, FAACSO has provided outstanding service handling the numerous
complaints of racial discrimination it receives annually; it has been
instrumental in gaining justice for countless civil service employees
who have received unfair treatment; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable organization has also encouraged the imple-
mentation of training programs within its affiliate groups, leading to
high achievement on promotion examinations for its civil service work-
ers; and
WHEREAS, Although primarily concerned with advancing equality in Civil
Service, FAACSO has worked to fight discrimination and expand opportu-
nities alongside numerous civil rights organizations including, the
NAACP, the Urban League and the New York State Association of Black &
Puerto Rican Legislators, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, In so effectively carrying out its mission, FAACSO has demon-
strated the value of helping people reach their fullest potential, while
furthering the societal and economic advancement of our Nation; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Federation of African-American Civil Service Organizations,
Inc. upon the occasion of hosting its Scholarship Awards Dinner Dance on
April 24, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Federation of African-American Civil Service Organiza-
tions, Inc.
