LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Tom Lang upon the occasion of his
induction into the 2015 Long Island Soccer Player Hall of Fame

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to honor those indi-
viduals whose exceptional athletic prowess leaves an enduring legacy in
their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Tom Lang upon the occasion of his induction into the 2015 Long
Island Soccer Player Hall of Fame, which was celebrated at the 33rd
Annual Long Island Junior Soccer League Convention in Melville, New
York, on Saturday, March 7, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Tom Lang grew up playing for the Long Island Junior Soccer
League's (LIJSL) New Hyde Park Wildcats and Garden City Centennials; he
won the Division 2 National Championship with Adelphi in 1973, scoring
101 goals; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable athlete's professional resume includes play-
ing for the New York Cosmos, Caribous of Colorado, and Atlanta Chiefs of
the North American Soccer League, as well as the New Jersey Americans of
the American Soccer League; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Tom Lang played for Lynbrook Steuben of the
LIJSL for 25 years and never received a single yellow or red card; and
WHEREAS, In 1984, Tom Lang coached Lynbrook Steuben to the Over-30
National Championship; he has also coached the Hofstra University and
Fairleigh Dickinson University men's teams, as well as the Adelphi
University women's team; and
WHEREAS, For nearly two decades, Tom Lang has been the men's soccer
coach at Southern Connecticut State, where he has won two Division 2
National Titles during his illustrious tenure; and
WHEREAS, Athletes and coaches such as Tom Lang provide a tremendous
service to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of
student-athletes in their athletic journeys and ensuring their success
in their future years; and
WHEREAS, Tom Lang has clearly been an inspiration to the Long Island
soccer players, as well as to the community-at-large, and accordingly
merits recognition and applause for his impressive dedication to others;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Tom Lang upon the occasion of his induction into the 2015
Long Island Soccer Player Hall of Fame; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Tom Lang.
