LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Joan Carvajal upon the occasion of her
retirement after 18 years of distinguished service to the Greenwood Lake
Public Library
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor and recognize
those dedicated individuals, who have improved the culture of our commu-
nity through exemplary institutions whose purpose is dedicated to serv-
ing the community and the needs of its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Joan Carvajal upon the occasion of her retirement after 18 years of
distinguished service to the Greenwood Lake Public Library, to be cele-
brated at a party held in her honor, on Sunday, April 26, 2015, at the
Greenwood Lake American Legion; and
WHEREAS, Joan Carvajal was employed by the Greenwood Lake Public
Library for 18 years, holding the esteemed title of Director for eight
of those years, the position from which she will officially retire; and
WHEREAS, In 1997, Joan Carvajal became an employee of the Greenwood
Lake Public Library, serving as the Computer Service Supervisor;
throughout the next 10 years, she held numerous positions including,
Manager of Reference and Adult Programming and Circulation, as well as
Assistant Director for the library; and
WHEREAS, In 2007, Joan Carvajal was promoted to the respected title of
Director of the Greenwood Lake Public Library; in this capacity, she
helped initiate one of the first public computer education programs
within the Ramapo Catskill Library System (RCLS), which went on to be a
model for other libraries within the organization; and
WHEREAS, Joan Carvajal was also instrumental in revamping the youth
study center as well as working with the Village of Greenwood Lake on a
complete renovation project; and
WHEREAS, Under Joan Carvajal's luminous leadership, the Greenwood Lake
Public Library launched a social media and web page, published and
authored the library's first newsletter, implemented on-line resources,
and provided e-books and DVDs, as well as hosted a Book Lover's Club;
and
WHEREAS, During her time at the Greenwood Lake Public Library, Joan
Carvajal has touched every aspect of this facility, leaving her mark of
excellence in each and every corner; and
WHEREAS, Joan Carvajal rendered faithful, conscientious and valuable
service to the Greenwood Lake Public Library; she has served with loyal-
ty, honor and distinction and has justly earned the admiration, esteem
and affection of her colleagues and community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Joan Carvajal upon the occasion of her retirement after 18 years
of distinguished service to the Greenwood Lake Public Library and to
wish her the best of luck in all of her future endeavors; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joan Carvajal.
