LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Michael Anthony DeSant upon the
occasion of celebrating his 100th Birthday

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, Michael Anthony DeSant was born on April 23, 1915; at the age
of 17, he joined the Patchogue Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, From 1941 to 1945, Michael Anthony DeSant served his country
with honor and distinction as a member of the United States Army; he was
stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, in Company 1, 134th Medical
Regiment before being assigned to the 3rd Railway Service in the Persian
Gulf Command where he was attached to the British Rail Service for three
years; during his valiant military service, he traveled throughout Iran
and Iraq; and
WHEREAS, For 35 years, Michael Anthony DeSant served as an Engineer
for the Long Island Railroad; he retired in 1975 after many years of
distinguished service; and
WHEREAS, Prior to joining the Long Island Railroad, Michael Anthony
DeSant worked at the Patchogue Lace Mill; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian, with his zest for life, has
inspired and enhanced the lives of his family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Michael Anthony DeSant married the former Jennie Caprino on
October 29, 1950; together, they raised a daughter, Michaelyn; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished man has experienced the incredible joys
and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the stamina
and courage to savor a full life; and
WHEREAS, Michael Anthony DeSant of Blue Point, New York, has enriched
the lives of those around him through his joyous and sincere love for
others and through the quiescent charm and wisdom which comes only from
a fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed
and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome
achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves
contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Michael Anthony DeSant upon the occasion of celebrating his
100th Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Michael Anthony DeSant.
