LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Joel Wincowski upon the occasion of
setting a new NYSPHAA Section II Boys Basketball all-time scoring record
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes pleasure in honoring talented high
school athletes who distinguish themselves and their community through
outstanding athletic performance; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor
Joel Wincowski upon the occasion of setting a new NYSPHAA Section II
Boys Basketball all-time scoring record; and
WHEREAS, On Tuesday, February 24, 2015, Lake George High School senior
Joel Wincowski became the new NYSPHAA Section II Boys Basketball all-
time scoring leader with a driving layup during the first half of his
team's 81-53 victory over Maple Hill High School in the opening round of
the Section II Class C State Tournament; and
WHEREAS, Following his record breaking basket, Joel Wincowski was
presented with a commemorative game ball at a center-court ceremony
featuring members of his family, Lake George Head Coach Dave Jones, and
Al Fredette; and
WHEREAS, Joel Hess Wincowski, the son of Joel R. and Carol H. Wincow-
ski, was born on December 1, 1996, in Marshall, Texas; he has been play-
ing basketball since he could walk, and began his AAU basketball career
as a first grader in Granville, New York; and
WHEREAS, During his illustrious high school basketball career, Joel
Wincowski scored a career 2,615 points while also maintaining a 91 aver-
age at Lake George High School; in addition, he is a member of the
National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable athlete was selected four times to the
Adirondack League All-Stars Team, and was twice Player of the Year; he
was also chosen as a three-time Channel 13 All-Star and a two-time POST
STAR All-Star, as well as the 2013 TIMES UNION Small School Player of
the Year; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Joel Wincowski was named the 2013 New York State
Player of the Year and a 2014 Max Preps All-American; he has three
consecutive Section II All-Tournament Team appearances and was twice
named MVP; and
WHEREAS, In 2015, SPORTS ILLUSTRATED recognized Joel Wincowski for
making the game winning shot in the New York State Section II Class C
finals, and for becoming the new Section II all-time leading scorer; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by Joel Wincowski is due in
great part to the efforts of Coach Dave Jones, a skilled and inspira-
tional tutor, respected for his ability to develop potential into excel-
lence; and
WHEREAS, Joel Wincowski has signed a National Letter of Intent to
attend the University of Maryland, Baltimore County where he will
continue his basketball career; and
WHEREAS, Joel Wincowski's exemplary performance in basketball is
reflective of his dedication, determination and personal commitment; his
achievements stand as a hallmark of what is best in the families,
schools and communities across New York State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Joel Wincowski upon the occasion of setting a new NYSPHAA Section
II Boys Basketball all-time scoring record, and to commend him for the
enduring honor he has brought to his family, his school and his communi-
ty; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joel Wincowski, and Coach Dave Jones.
