LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Cadet Major Samael O'Brien upon the
occasion of his designation as recipient of the Amelia Earhart Award and
the General Ira C. Eaker Award by the Civil Air Patrol

WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in this Nation, and the great
State of New York, is reflective of the purposeful lives and good works
of those patriotic and civic-minded community members who dedicate their
lives and careers to the service of others; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Cadet Major
Samael O'Brien upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Amelia Earhart Award and the General Ira C. Eaker Award by the Civil Air
Patrol; and
WHEREAS, The Civil Air Patrol is the official auxiliary of the United
States Air Force with over 57,000 members nationwide; it performs 90
percent of continental United States inland search and rescue missions
as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center; and
WHEREAS, The Amelia Earhart Award is the second milestone of the Civil
Air Patrol Cadet Program and is earned after the receipt of the General
Billy Mitchell Award and the completion of the first eleven achievements
of the Program; and
WHEREAS, The General Ira C. Eaker Award is one of the Civil Air
Patrol's most prized honors and is presented to cadets who have demon-
strated excellence in leadership, character, fitness, and Aerospace
Education; it marks the successful completion of all 16 achievements in
the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program; and
WHEREAS, Cadet Major Samael O'Brien through his diligence and rigorous
efforts has completed the highest level of achievement in the Civil Air
Patrol Cadet Program and consequently has been designated for special
recognition; and
WHEREAS, Cadet Major Samael O'Brien joined the Civil Air Patrol Cadet
Program in 2011 and currently serves as the Cadet Commander of the
Vedder Composite Squadron; and
WHEREAS, Cadet Major Samael O'Brien has achieved the esteemed honor of
being one of the elite Black Hat Instructors at the New York Wing Search
and Rescue Training Academy in Long Island; in addition, he serves on
the New York Wing Cadet Advisory Council; and
WHEREAS, Cadet Major Samael O'Brien's perseverance in rising through
the ranks of the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program is a strong indication
of his ability to master difficult tasks; his accomplishments have
enabled him to emerge as a leader, fully equipped to meet the challenges
of today's complex society; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Cadet Major Samael O'Brien upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the Amelia Earhart Award and the General Ira C. Eaker Award
by the Civil Air Patrol; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Cadet Major Samael O'Brien.
