LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 100th Anniversary of PS 206
South Park High School, in Buffalo, New York, on May 2, 2015

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those institutions of true purpose and high achievement whose
exemplary programs and accomplishments clearly demonstrate an enduring
pursuit of excellence in the education of the youth of this noble Empire
State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 100th Anniversary of PS 206 South Park High School, to be
celebrated at a party on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at the Adam's Mark
Hotel, Buffalo, New York; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the last century PS 206 South Park High School has
taken great pride in living up to its mantra of Vires Acquirit Eundo -
We gather strength as we go - which aptly describes the tenacity and
determination of its students and the Buffalo community-at-large; and
WHEREAS, In an atmosphere rich with cultural diversity, PS 206 South
Park High School provides a differentiated program of instruction which
sets the highest standards for all its children while celebrating indi-
viduality and encouraging creativity, preparing them to meet the academ-
ic and technological challenges of both the present and future; and
WHEREAS, In 1915, PS 206 South Park High School opened its doors to
the incoming students for the first time; since then, the school, still
in its original building at 150 Southside Parkway, has served gener-
ations of students from the neighborhoods of South Buffalo, Kaisertown,
the Old First Ward, the Valley, Lovejoy, Seneca-Babcock, and the East
Side; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous leadership of Principal Theresa Schuta, PS
206 South Park High School is a comprehensive academic facility which is
comprised of approximately 900 students in grades 9-12; the student
population represents a diversity of socio-economic backgrounds and
academic abilities; and
WHEREAS, PS 206 South Park High School boasts an experienced and
talented Special Education department, as well as a challenging Advanced
Placement Program for students with exceptional academic abilities; in
addition, other special curricular programs include a printing/graphic
communications program, a business education program, an instrumental
band program, a choral program, a visual arts department, and a horti-
culture program that services special needs students; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable institution is comprised of state-of-the-art
facilities including a library media center, four computer labs, brand
new gymnasium, swimming pool, 1,200 seat auditorium, a fully renovated
cafeteria, and a modern large group instruction room, as well as a
sports practice field located adjacent to the school; and
WHEREAS, PS 206 South Park High School is a fully wired building with
internet access in all classrooms; in addition, the building is equipped
with wi-fi and every classroom has internet capable computers; and
WHEREAS, The dedicated faculty of PS 206 South Park High School
includes a mix of veteran teachers who have dedicated their career to
the school and a growing contingent of young teachers who have brought a
spirit of innovation and experimentation to the school; and
WHEREAS, The steadfast and unyielding commitment of parents, educators
and administrators to provide the highest quality education for students
has become the hallmark and tradition of PS 206 South Park High School;
and

WHEREAS, This enduring and vital institution has served as an anchor
for the community of Buffalo, bringing together students and families
from different neighborhoods and backgrounds with the common goal of
receiving a quality education; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is very pleased to have this opportu-
nity to commend PS 206 South Park High School, for its long history of
purposeful endeavor which has greatly benefited the community of
Buffalo, New York, and to wish this worthy organization continued
success in future years; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of PS 206 South Park High School, in
Buffalo, New York, on May 2, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Principal Theresa Schuta, PS 206 South Park High School, and
the 100th Anniversary Alumni Association.
