LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Michael H. Barnes for 10 years of
distinguished service as Manager of the Chautauqua Lake Rest Area

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commemorate and
recognize certain milestones, deeds and accomplishments in the lives of
citizens of this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Michael H. Barnes for his 10 years of distinguished service as Manager
of the Chautauqua Lake Rest Area; and
WHEREAS, Opened in May of 2005, the Chautauqua Lake Rest Area on
Interstate 86 has proven to be an important means for area businesses to
promote their goods and services to visitors to our region and the State
of New York; and
WHEREAS, The Chautauqua Lake Rest Area is a beautiful and spacious
facility, which provides picturesque views of Chautauqua Lake and the
surrounding countryside; and
WHEREAS, As the Westernmost rest area and Information Center in the
State of New York, and the first look at New York for visitors traveling
from the west, the Chautauqua Lake Rest Area confidently represents our
great Empire State to the over 200,000 visitors it receives annually and
the 40,000 patrons who visit the Information Center each year; and
WHEREAS, Since its grand opening in 2005, Michael H. Barnes has faith-
fully executed the duties of manager; he precisely maintains and organ-
izes travel information, including New York State maps, local newspa-
pers, and information on Chautauqua County's fine businesses and
organizations, so visitors never lack necessary resources; and
WHEREAS, Michael H. Barnes has worked with hundreds of businesses from
across the county to solicit their information for the facility, provid-
ing visitors to the region a plethora of helpful brochures regarding
area retailers, restaurants, outdoor activities and specialty shops; he
has also coordinated the exchange of materials with other information
centers, fostering cross-promotion throughout the State; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Michael H. Barnes has worked with and trained
dozens of conscientious volunteers who have become ambassadors for the
Chautauqua Region and the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Born in Westfield, New York, on November 11, 1943, Michael H.
Barnes is known throughout the county as the glue, the oil, and every-
thing else that makes the Chautauqua Lake Rest Area operate smoothly and
efficiently; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from Mayville Central High School, Michael
H. Barnes worked for the U.S. Postal Service; he served as Postmaster
of the Mayville Branch, until his retirement in 2002; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Betty, and their two
children, as well as three grandchildren, all of whom feel privileged to
be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize and honor beloved citizens who have contributed in extraordinary
ways to the betterment of the lives of residents of this great Empire
State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Michael H. Barnes for 10 years of distinguished service as
Manager of the Chautauqua Lake Rest Area; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Michael H. Barnes.
