LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Kathleen "Max" Thornton upon the occa-
sion of her designation for special recognition as recipient of the
Spirit of Light Award by St. Paul's Center in Rensselaer, New York

WHEREAS, From time to time, this Legislative Body takes note of certain
individuals that it wishes to recognize for having given of their time
and energies to serve the best interests of their communities and to
publicly acknowledge their service; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Kathleen "Max" Thornton upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition as recipient of the Spirit of Light Award by St. Paul's
Center in Rensselaer, New York, at its Bountiful Hearts and Harvest
Reception, held on Thursday, November 6, 2014, at Taste, Albany, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Since November is National Homeless Awareness Month, it is
especially important to celebrate those who made a positive impact on
the homeless population in the Capital Region; and
WHEREAS, St. Paul's Center opened its doors in 2006; it provides a
warm, nurturing, home-like environment where mothers have the opportu-
nity to become equipped and empowered to make a successful transition to
independent living, and begin a better life for themselves and their
children; and
WHEREAS, The Spirit of Light Volunteer Award recognizes a special
volunteer who directly touches the Center's families, making an immedi-
ate and real difference in their lives; this volunteer gives freely of
their time and energies, without judgment of those served, and without
the expectation of gratitude, simply serving as a friend to those in
need; and
WHEREAS, Kathleen "Max" Thornton is the inaugural recipient of this
auspicious award; she is a positive role model to everyone at the
Center; she recognizes that families in need are not invisible, standing
alone, or to be ignored; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Kathleen "Max" Thornton upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition as recipient of the Spirit of Light Award by St.
Paul's Center in Rensselaer, New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Kathleen "Max" Thornton.
