LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Oscar E. Brundige posthumously upon the
occasion of his designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest
honor bestowed upon an individual by the New York State Senate

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Oscar E. Brun-
dige posthumously upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of a
Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New
York State Senate, to be celebrated at the Honor-A-Deceased Veteran
Ceremony on January 20, 2015, at the County Building in Ballston Spa,
New York; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by a
resolution in 2014 and is awarded to individuals who have merited
special commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on
behalf of their fellow New Yorkers; and
WHEREAS, Born on July 20, 1919, in Mechanicville, New York, Oscar E.
Brundige graduated from Stillwater High School in 1936; and
WHEREAS, From 1937 to 1942, Oscar E. Brundige was employed by the West
Virginia Pulp and Paper Company; and
WHEREAS, In April of 1942, Oscar E. Brundige began serving his country
as a member of the United States Army; he served proudly in the 82nd
Airborne with the 507th Parachute Infantry; and
WHEREAS, After parachuting behind enemy lines during the D-Day Inva-
sion, this brave soldier made his way through the Ardennes and the
Rhineland to participate in the Battle of the Bulge campaign; and
WHEREAS, Oscar E. Brundige earned several medals and accolades for his
exceptional military service including the Distinguished Service Medal,
European African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, the
Netherlands Orange Lanyard, and a Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster; he
was also awarded the esteemed Belgian Fourragere; and
WHEREAS, Upon his separation from service in September of 1945, Oscar
E. Brundige returned to work at the West Virginia Pulp and Paper Compa-
ny until 1971; he went on to work for Ciba-Geigy of Fort Edward until
his retirement after 12 years of distinguished service; and
WHEREAS, Active in his community, Oscar E. Brundige was a member of
the Purple Heart Society, life member of the Post 490 American Legion of
Stillwater, and a faithful member of the Stillwater United Church; in
addition, he volunteered for the Saratoga County Meals on Wheels program
for over 20 years; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Oscar E. Brundige's passion for bowling earned
him a spot on the Stillwater Men's Bowling League for over 50 years; and
WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at home and abroad,
Oscar E. Brundige demonstrated his love for his country and merits
forevermore the highest respect of his State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended and
thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and for
their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Oscar E. Brundige posthumously upon the occasion of his desig-

nation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon
an individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Oscar E. Brundige.
