LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Kevin Hunter upon the occasion of his
retirement after many years of distinguished service to Teamsters Local
294

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Kevin Hunter upon the occasion of his retirement after many years of
distinguished service to Teamsters Local 294 which was celebrated on
Friday, November 21, 2014 at Michael's Banquet House in Latham, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Kevin Hunter began his career in October of 1970 as a dock
man at Tanney's Motor Transportation Inc., the third of four generations
of the Hunter family to become a member of Teamsters Local 294; and
WHEREAS, In 1971, this esteemed man joined the United States Navy
where he served as a Boatswains Mate aboard the guided missile destroy-
er, U.S.S. Leahy in the 2nd and 6th Fleets; and
WHEREAS, Upon his honorable discharge in 1975, Kevin Hunter returned
to Tanney's as a P and D driver in the Capital District area; over the
next 14 years he worked for various trucking companies including Smith's
Transfer, Yellow Freight, Red Star Express, Maislin Bros., and Pilot
Freight Carriers; and
WHEREAS, In 1982, Kevin Hunter was elected to the Executive Board of
Local 294 as a recording secretary; and
WHEREAS, In 1989, Kevin Hunter became a fulltime organizer at Local
294 where his efforts focused on organizing new members and negotiating
first contracts; he became a Business Agent in 1992, and ultimately
Secretary-Treasurer of the Local in 2001; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure with Local 294, Kevin Hunter earned the
admiration, esteem and affection of his colleagues; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Kevin Hunter upon the occasion of his retirement after many years
of distinguished service to Teamsters Local 294; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Kevin Hunter.
