LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Jack Friedman, distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to mourn the death of
certain prominent individuals whose valued contributions to their commu-
nity, their profession, and their heritage served to enhance the quality
of life in the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Jack Friedman of Queens, New York died on April 9, 2015, at
the age of 55; and
WHEREAS, Affectionately known as Mr. Queens, Jack Friedman served as
Executive Director of the Queens Chamber of Commerce; an advocate for
the economic development of Queens County, he was known as a genial
operator whose reach extended into politics, education, and business;
and
WHEREAS, Upon graduating from Queens College in 1981, Jack Friedman
owned and operated a photo printing business; he went on to become pres-
ident of School Board 26, and chair of the Queens Community Board 13
Economic Development Committee; and
WHEREAS, Seven years ago, Jack Friedman joined the Queens Chamber of
Commerce following his stint as a Chief of Staff in the mid-2000s; and
WHEREAS, A former board member of SNAP, Jack Friedman worked dili-
gently to facilitate better conditions for residential communities in
Queens including major development projects such as Resorts World, and
improving the Jamaica business community; and
WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Queens, Jack Friedman had an intimate
knowledge and history, combined with his experience as a small business
owner, which allowed him to be instrumental in helping countless entre-
preneurs; and
WHEREAS, A beloved staple of the Queens business and civic community,
Jack Friedman was fiercely dedicated to making Queens a key center of
economic opportunity and prosperity, which guided his leadership and
activism throughout the community for many years; and
WHEREAS, Jack Friedman was sincerely loved and greatly respected by
all those with whom he worked; committed to his community, the people he
represented, his State, and his Nation, he served his public with digni-
ty, dedication and incisive wisdom; and
WHEREAS, Over a long and meritorious life of service on behalf of
others, Jack Friedman was a man of action, of integrity, and of commit-
ment, whose true compassion was generously given to all who knew him;
and
WHEREAS, Jack Friedman is survived by his wife, Lorie, and their two
children, Cara and Daniel, all of whom feel privileged to have been a
part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Jack Friedman leaves behind a legacy which will long endure
the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he
served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Jack Friedman, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Jack Friedman.
