LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Wounded Warrior Project upon the
occasion of hosting the Sixth Annual Memorial Day 100 on May 23, 2015
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend the Wounded
Warrior Project upon the occasion of hosting the Sixth Annual Memorial
Day 100 on Saturday, May 23, 2015; and
WHEREAS, The Wounded Warrior Project is a nationally recognized organ-
ization aimed at assisting the men and women of our Armed Forces who
have been severely injured during combat operations in Iraq, Afghanis-
tan, and other overseas contingency operations worldwide; and
WHEREAS, The Wounded Warrior Project aims to raise awareness and has
enlisted the public's aid for the needs of severely injured soldiers; in
addition, it helps severely injured service members aid and/or assist
each other, as well as provides unique, direct programs and services to
meet their needs; and
WHEREAS, The Wounded Warrior Project organizes numerous fundraisers to
benefit its worthy cause, including the Annual Memorial Day 100 mara-
thon; throughout the past five years, this stellar event has raised
significant funds; and
WHEREAS, On Saturday, May 23, 2015, 30 United States Marine Veterans
will commence the 115 mile-relay marathon at the World War II Memorial
in Albany, New York, and end at the Purple Heart Hall of Honor in New
Windsor, New York; and
WHEREAS, The race consists of a relay with two Marine Veterans of the
3rd Battalion, 25th Regiment (3/25) who served in Iraq running at a
time, proudly carrying the Stars and Stripes and the Wounded Warrior
Project Flag; and
WHEREAS, During their 2005 deployment, the 3/25 regiment lost 48
brothers, including Corporal Joseph S. Tremblay; this distinguished
event, the 2015 Marathon, is being held in his honor, as well as for the
rest of the soldiers lost in Iraq; and
WHEREAS, The late Corporal Joseph S. Tremblay proudly served his coun-
try as a member of the 3/25 Battalion, 4th Marine Division, of the
United States Marine Corps; and
WHEREAS, Joseph S. Tremblay was born on November 13, 1981, to Lawrence
Tremblay, Sr. and Tina Marie Remo; he graduated from the Newburgh Free
Academy in 1999, and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps,
completing a four-year tour; and
WHEREAS, Corporal Joseph S. Tremblay remained in the Marines Reserve
and signed up for active duty when the call went out for volunteers;
during his tour of duty, he served in Hawaii, Japan, and Australia; and
WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country, and must recognize
that no greater debt is owed than that owed to those who gave their
lives for their beloved Nation and to those who continue to be missing
in action; and
WHEREAS, Having exhibited their patriotism both at home and abroad,
these men and women demonstrated their love for their country and merit
forevermore, the highest respect of their State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York, who
have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this country's
freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace in peace-
time, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Wounded Warrior Project upon the occasion of hosting the
Sixth Annual Memorial Day 100 on May 23, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Wounded Warrior Project, and the family of Corporal
Joseph S. Tremblay.
