LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Joyce Persons upon the occasion of her
selection as the St. Lawrence County 2015 Senior Citizen of the Year by
the New York State Office for the Aging

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Joyce Persons
upon the occasion of her selection as the St. Lawrence County 2015
Senior Citizen of the Year by the New York State Office for the Aging at
its Annual Senior Citizens Day Celebration on Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at
the Hart Theatre Lounge in the Egg, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Each May, the New York State Office for the Aging pauses to
acknowledge the outstanding contributions made by older citizens during
National Older Americans Month; and
WHEREAS, Members of older generations have helped build and shape our
Nation to be the greatest in the world; they have defended our freedoms
and values to ensure that those who come after them may have better
lives; nowhere in the Nation is the legacy of their efforts more visible
and more a part of the lives of all citizens than here in the State of
New York; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Star Lake, New York, Joyce Persons held the
position of Nutrition Manager at the Star Lake Nutrition Site of the
Office of the Aging for over 10 years; today, she continues to volunteer
as needed; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed woman has been called upon to contribute her
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, A committed volunteer for over four decades, Joyce Persons
has devoted her life to the Star Lake community; for over 30 years, she
has been a vital member of the Eastern Stars, and is a participant of
the Star Lake American Legion Auxiliary, as well as the St. Lawrence
County Office for the Aging Advisory Council; and
WHEREAS, Joyce Persons has held numerous leadership positions in vari-
ous organizations, including Board of Director member of the St.
Lawrence County Council of Senior Citizens, Assistant Leader for the
Daisy Girl Scouts, and Vice President and then President of the Clif-
ton-Fine Senior Citizens; and
WHEREAS, An active member of the First Baptist Church, Joyce Persons
served as the Deaconess of the Congregation and the Sunday School Super-
intendent; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to her community, Joyce Persons was instrumental in
bringing public bus transportation to the remote area of Star Lake on a
weekly basis for travel to Potsdam and Canton; in addition, she was the
guiding force behind the introduction of health promotion and exercise
classes to the Star Lake Community Center; and
WHEREAS, Known as a dynamic and enthusiastic fund raiser for all the
organizations she volunteers with, this remarkable woman can always be
counted upon to assist with planning parties and events; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Joyce Persons has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Joyce Persons has displayed through-
out her life; and

WHEREAS, Joyce Persons, a very active and industrious woman, has
inspired and enriched the lives of those she serves through her volun-
teerism, generously sharing the wisdom gained over years of experiencing
life to its fullest; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Joyce Persons upon the occasion of being selected as the St.
Lawrence County 2015 Senior Citizen of the Year by the New York State
Office for the Aging; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joyce Persons.
