LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. David Kriegel upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the 2015 Academy Award by the Bet Shraga
Hebrew Academy of the Capital District

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those individ-
uals who devote themselves to the welfare of the community and its citi-
zenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr.
David Kriegel upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
2015 Academy Award by the Bet Shraga Hebrew Academy of the Capital
District to be celebrated at a dinner on Thursday, May 28, 2015, at
Congregation Agudat Achim, Niskayuna, New York; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious award is bestowed upon individuals who exem-
plify the mission of the Bet Shraga Hebrew Academy of the Capital
District through intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and love of
learning while celebrating the richness of their Jewish traditions; and
WHEREAS, Dr. David Kriegel has shown brightly in his respective field,
while maintaining a sense of community, service, and integrity, as well
as an ongoing commitment to the Jewish foundation instilled in him by
the Bet Shraga Hebrew Academy; and
WHEREAS, A 1979 graduate of the Bet Shraga Hebrew Academy of the Capi-
tal District, David Kriegel furthered his education at Columbia Univer-
sity, New York City; while a student, he was a member of the Board of
Directors of the United Jewish Appeal, and led the United Jewish Appeal
(UJA) Student Campaign; and
WHEREAS, Today, Dr. David Kriegel is a nationally recognized Mohs Skin
Cancer Surgeon; he holds the esteemed position of Director of the Divi-
sion of Dermatologic and Mohs Surgery at The Mount Sinai Medical Center,
New York City; and
WHEREAS, In this capacity, Dr. David Kriegel plays a key role in the
education of residents and fellows, and founded the hospital's Proce-
dural Dermatology Program; this fellowship is one of only 42 Accredi-
tation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited
programs in the United States and attracts outstanding dermatologists
who want to serve as Mohs Surgeons; and
WHEREAS, Renowned and well-respected in his field, Dr. David Kriegel
has been the recipient of numerous awards and accolades, including being
listed as an exemplary Physician in NEW YORK MAGAZINE, THE NEW YORK
TIMES BEST DOCTORS edition, and in AMERICA'S BEST CANCER DOCTORS GUIDE;
and
WHEREAS, Dr. David Kriegel has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to his White Plains community, Dr. David Kriegel
has been involved with many Jewish causes, such as serving as a member
of the leadership panel for Israel Bonds, and the Board of Directors of
American Friends of Hebrew University, where he acted as a Trustee for
their medical research foundation; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Dr. David Kriegel belongs to three area syna-
gogues, and is an active participant in the Westchester Jewish communi-
ty; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Dr. David Kriegel has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Lisa, and their three
children, Nili, Jack and Maya, all of whom feel privileged to be a part
of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Dr. David Kriegel has displayed
throughout his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. David Kriegel upon the occasion of his designation as recipi-
ent of the 2015 Academy Award by the Bet Shraga Hebrew Academy of the
Capital District; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. David Kriegel.
