LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Vietnam Veteran Paul William Dunphy, Sr.
upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition by the
United States Postal Service on May 22, 2015

WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York, who
have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this country's
freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace in peace-
time, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend those
who have served in times of active conflict, as well as those who have
served in times of peace; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Vietnam Veter-
an Paul William Dunphy, Sr. upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by the United States Postal Service in Colonie, New
York, to be celebrated on Friday, May 22, 2015, at a Memorial Day Cere-
mony; and
WHEREAS, Paul William Dunphy, Sr. was born on August 17, 1952, in
Cohoes, New York; he attended Troy High School, and later proudly served
his country as a member of the United States Army in August of 1970; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his training at Fort Riley, Kansas, Paul William
Dunphy, Sr. held the position of an 11E20 Armor Crewman; after success-
fully completing the course, he was assigned to the B CO 2nd BN 63rd
Armor 1st Infantry Division; and
WHEREAS, Paul William Dunphy, Sr. was then ordered to Vietnam; he
landed in Hawk Hill, also known as Hill 29, which was located north of
Tam KY; and
WHEREAS, After a short stay, Paul William Dunphy, Sr. was ordered to
Khe Sanh located near the Laotian border and just south of the Demili-
tarized Zone (DMZ) which separated North and South Vietnam; and
WHEREAS, In October of 1973, Paul William Dunphy, Sr. was discharged
from the United States Army; subsequently, he was the recipient of
numerous awards and accolades, including the Vietnam Service Medal with
1 Bronze Service Star, Purple Heart Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National
Defense Service Medal and Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm
Unit Citation Badge; and
WHEREAS, Upon his return from his military service, Paul William
Dunphy, Sr. was employed with the United States Postal Service for over
30 years; he held numerous positions, including Custodian and Supervisor
of Building Services at the Albany General Mail Facility, as well as
Postmaster of Charlotteville, New York, before retiring in 2007; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Carol, who he met at
the Albany General Mail Facility, and married on June 28, 1986, and
their two sons, Paul, Jr. and Michael, all of whom feel privileged to be
a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Paul William Dunphy, Sr. was an active member of several
organizations, including the Combat Veteran's Motorcycle Association,
Chapter 194, the Timothy Murphy American Legion Riders, the VFW and
AMVETS, which are both located in Cobleskill, New York, as well as a
member of the Purple Heart Association; and
WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country, and must recognize
that no greater debt is owed than that owed to those who gave their
lives for their beloved Nation and to those who continue to be missing
in action; and
WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at home and abroad, Paul
William Dunphy, Sr. has demonstrated his love for his country and merits
forevermore, the highest respect of his State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when veterans
of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our attention,
they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of this
great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Vietnam Veteran Paul William Dunphy, Sr. upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by the United States Postal Service
on May 22, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Paul William Dunphy, Sr.
