LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION saluting Senior Master Sergeant Anita Sullivan
upon the occasion of her retirement from the United States Air Force
WHEREAS, It is the sense of the State of New York to pay tribute to
those remarkable individuals within our midst who have honorably served
their country, in order to protect the life and liberty of our citizens,
and whose military and professional lives serve to enhance the stature
of this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Individuals who dedicate their lives to military service
fully merit the commendation and applause of all citizens for their
commitment to the preservation of our rights and freedoms; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is hereby proud to recognize
Senior Master Sergeant Anita Sullivan upon the occasion of her retire-
ment from the United States Air Force, effective July 1, 2015; and
WHEREAS, SMSgt. Anita Sullivan was born Anita M. Mozo in August 1957;
she is also a 1975 graduate of East Syracuse-Minoa High School; and
WHEREAS, In January of 1977, SMSgt. Anita Sullivan enlisted in the New
York Air National Guard and left for Basic Military Training on April 1,
1977, at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from Basic Military Training, SMSgt. Anita
Sullivan began Air Force Technical Training as an Air Passenger Special-
ist at the Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas; and
WHEREAS, In 1977, SMSgt. Anita Sullivan returned to Hancock Field as a
Drill Status Guardsman in the Traffic Management Office, where she
performed additional training to achieve her 5-skill level as an Air
Passenger Specialist; and
WHEREAS, In 1979, SMSgt. Anita Sullivan was hired as a full-time Air
Technician and was assigned to the 174th Operations Group, cross-train-
ing into the Airfield Management career field and receiving her 7-skill
level in Air Force Specialty Codes; and
WHEREAS, During her tenure with the 174th Operations Group, SMSgt.
Anita Sullivan participated in several unit deployments, including a
Joint Chief of Staff Checkered Flag Coronet Sail Exercise to Lechfeld
Air Base, Germany, in 1981; and
WHEREAS, In 1982, SMSgt. Anita Sullivan was assigned to the position
of GS-07 Standardization/Evaluation Technician; she held this position
until 1989, when she decided to leave active duty and transfer into the
Wing Safety Office as a Duty Status Guardsman, in order to spend more
time with her family; and
WHEREAS, SMSgt. Anita Sullivan maintained her position in the Wing
Safety Office until 1995, performing additional duties at Hancock Field
when the 174th Fighter Wing was called to Federal Active Service in
support of Operation DESERT SHIELD and Operation DESERT STORM; and
WHEREAS, In November of 1995, SMSgt. Anita Sullivan accepted a new job
to become the Commander's Executive Assistant; she served in this posi-
tion, which was eventually upgraded to an Active Guard/Reserve position,
until her retirement in 2015, working directly for Wing Commanders'
Colonel Robert Knauff, Colonel Anthony Basile, Colonel Kevin Bradley,
and for Colonel Greg Semmel; and
WHEREAS, In 2010, having completed the Senior Noncommissioned Officer
Academy Course, SMSgt. Anita Sullivan was reassigned to the military
position of Cyber Systems Superintendent and was subsequently promoted
to the rank of Senior Master Sergeant; and
WHEREAS, That same year, SMSgt. Anita Sullivan was assigned further
duties as the 174th Fighter Wing Protocol Coordinator; in this addi-
tional role, she was instrumental in planning countless high-level
distinguished guest visits, numerous Change of Command ceremonies,
several military funerals, and various community events; and
WHEREAS, SMSgt. Anita Sullivan's military decorations include, but are
not limited to: Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal,
Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service
Medal, National Defense Service Medal with one bronze service star, the
Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Air Force Longevity
Service Ribbon with eight oak leaf clusters; and
WHEREAS, SMSgt. Anita Sullivan also holds the following New York State
awards and decorations: New York State Long and Faithful Service Award,
New York State Defense of Liberty Medal, New York State Medal for Merit,
New York State Recruiting Medal, New York State Exercise Support Ribbon,
and the New York State Physical Fitness Ribbon with two silver shield
devices; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause to hereby recognize Senior
Master Sergeant Anita Sullivan upon the occasion of her retirement from
the United States Air Force, after 38 years of dedicated military
service; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Senior Master Sergeant Anita Sullivan, United States Air
Force, Retired.
