LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Margaret Latona upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Volunteer of the Year Award by YMCA
Buffalo Niagara

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to call attention to
the dedicated efforts of those individuals from across the State of New
York who volunteer their time and energies in service to the community;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Margaret Latona upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Volunteer of the Year Award by YMCA Buffalo Niagara, celebrated at its
annual banquet on Thursday, May 7, 2015; and
WHEREAS, YMCA volunteers come from all walks of life, bringing with
them a strong desire to help others and an abundance of ideas and skills
to share; whether a policy maker, a fundraiser or a program assistant,
they play an integral role in the success of the association; and
WHEREAS, The Volunteer of the Year Award recognizes outstanding branch
volunteers who selflessly give of themselves to support the YMCA's
mission of helping others, while demonstrating an exceptional commitment
to service; and
WHEREAS, Margaret Latona has contributed her time and talents as a
volunteer branch board member at the Delaware Family YMCA for the past
five years and has always given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed woman has also served as Committee Chair for
the Program and Membership Committee, and was a leading volunteer
fundraiser for the Delaware Family YMCA's 2014 Campaign; and
WHEREAS, An outstanding ambassador for the YMCA through her community
outreach efforts, Margaret Latona is a constant presence at many special
events including Healthy Kids Day; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Margaret Latona has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Volunteerism is an essential element of all societies; it
provides a way in which the human values of community, caring and serv-
ing can be sustained and strengthened; and
WHEREAS, Volunteerism promotes family and community solidarity; most
importantly, people who volunteer their time in civic and charitable
endeavors inspire others to the call of volunteerism; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Margaret Latona has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Margaret Latona upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Volunteer of the Year Award by YMCA Buffalo Niagara; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Margaret Latona.
