LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Frances Leek upon the occasion of her
retirement after many years of distinguished service to St. Hugh of
Lincoln Roman Catholic Church

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of esteemed resi-
dents of this noble Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Frances Leek upon the occasion of her retirement after many years of
distinguished service to St. Hugh of Lincoln Roman Catholic Church; and
WHEREAS, Frances Leek began her illustrious career with St. Hugh of
Lincoln Roman Catholic Church in Huntington Station, New York, as
Assistant to Director of Religious Education in January of 1981; four
years later she became the Assistant to Director of Parish Social Minis-
try before becoming its Director in 1988, the esteemed position from
which she is retiring; and
WHEREAS, For the past 34 years, Frances Leek rendered faithful,
conscientious and valuable service to St. Hugh of Lincoln Roman Catholic
Church; and
WHEREAS, As Director of Parish Social Ministry, Frances Leek oversees
the daily running of the office, supervises clients and volunteers,
designs and implements programs, and directly interacts with the parish
and the community-at-large by serving on various local committees and
boards; and
WHEREAS, In her capacity as the Director of Parish Social Ministry,
Frances Leek served with loyalty, honor and distinction; and
WHEREAS, Frances Leek has been instrumental in the implementation of
such programs as, the Moms and Tots mentoring program, Lazarus Ministry,
Bread of Life Soup Kitchen, Bread of Life Development, Hospital Visita-
tion, Homebound Reassurance Calls, transportation to church and medical
appointments, as well as grant writing for food pantry and program fund-
ing; and
WHEREAS, In her official acts, Frances Leek was governed by a keen
sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems; and
WHEREAS, Active within the community she so ably serves, Frances Leek
gives of her time and energies to Catholic Charities, the Department of
Social Service Advisory Board, Habitat for Humanity, the Suffolk County
Child Care Council, the Suffolk County Parent Leadership Program, and
the Chamber of Commerce Roundtable for Health Centers; and
WHEREAS, In addition, she is on the Board of Directors of the Dolan
Family Health Center where she serves as Vice-Chairman, as well as the
Board of Directors of the Bread of Life Soup Kitchen, Bread of Life
Development Corp., the Huntington Station Enrichment Center, and Hunt-
ington Hospital; and
WHEREAS, Frances Leek is the proud recipient of countless awards and
accolades some of which include, the County Executive Leadership Award,
the Paul Harris Fellow Award, and the Huntington Public Schools Achieve-
ment Award; and
WHEREAS, During her tenure with St. Hugh of Lincoln Roman Catholic
Church, Frances Leek earned the admiration, esteem and affection of her
colleagues; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the occurrence of such a compassionate blend-
ing of strength, leadership, intellect, and commitment as that demon-
strated by Frances Leek over a lifetime of sacrifice and dedication to
others; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Frances Leek upon the occasion of her retirement after many years
of distinguished service to St. Hugh of Lincoln Roman Catholic Church,
and to wish her continued success in all of her future endeavors; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Frances Leek.
