LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Father Joseph Granata upon the occasion
of his retirement after many years of distinguished service as Pastor of
St. Hugh of Lincoln Roman Catholic Church

WHEREAS, The character and richness of religious and community life in
this noble Empire State is nourished and fulfilled through the faithful
concern and selfless devotion of those who would commit their energies
and purpose to the ministry of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to bring full recog-
nition and just tribute to those individuals who distinguish themselves
and the ministry through their unremitting commitment and preeminence of
service; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Father Joseph Granata upon the occasion of his retirement after many
years of distinguished service as Pastor of St. Hugh of Lincoln Roman
Catholic Church; and
WHEREAS, Born in Queens, New York in 1948, Father Joseph Granata
attended Saint Anthony of Padula School in South Ozone Park before
moving to Long Island in 1962, where he graduated from St. Pius X Prep
Seminary; and
WHEREAS, Father Joseph Granata earned an associate's degree from St.
Pius X College in 1968, as well as a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy
from the Cathedral College of the Immaculate Conception in 1970; he went
on to receive his Master of Divinity degree from the Immaculate
Conception Seminary in Huntington, New York, and also studied Spanish at
the graduate level at the Catholic University of Puerto Rico; and
WHEREAS, Ordained a priest on April 5, 1975, Father Joseph Granata
began his illustrious career in the ministry at St. John of God in
Central Islip; he served St. Rose of Lima in Massapequa from 1980 until
1984, and Infant Jesus in Port Jefferson from 1984 to 1988; and
WHEREAS, Father Joseph Granata returned to St. John of God in 1988,
where he remained as Pastor until 2003, during which time he became the
Pastor of Our Lady of Fatima in Port Washington; two years later he
began his service of Pastor of St. Hugh of Lincoln Roman Catholic Church
in Huntington Station, the esteemed position from which he is retiring;
and
WHEREAS, Named Monsignor in March of 2007, and Chaplain to His Holi-
ness, Father Joseph Granata has brought to his ministry an overwhelming
spirit of charity and compassion, acting from vision and enlightenment
in conducting his administrative and spiritual duties, while always
displaying the highest standards of personal and professional integrity
and dedication; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished man of God has always given enlightenment,
guidance and wisdom to the many entrusted to his care and has adminis-
tered abundantly and unstintingly to the spiritual and corporal needs of
all; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when a person
of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our attention, it
is appropriate to publicly and jubilantly proclaim and commend that
individual for the edification of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Father Joseph Granata upon the occasion of his retirement after
many years of distinguished service as Pastor of St. Hugh of Lincoln
Roman Catholic Church; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Father Joseph Granata.
