LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Chief Assistant District Attorney John
F. Tobin upon the occasion of his retirement after 32 years of distin-
guished service to the people of Ulster County

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Chief Assistant District Attorney John F. Tobin upon the occasion of his
retirement after 32 years of distinguished service to the people of
Ulster County; and
WHEREAS, John F. Tobin earned his bachelor's degree, cum laude, from
the State University of New York at New Paltz, and attained his law
degree from the St. John's University School of Law; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed man began his legal career in 1978, when he
served as a law clerk with the litigation division of the Port Authority
of New York and New Jersey; he later moved to Ulster County to work for
a local law firm before joining the Ulster County District Attorney's
Office in 1984; and
WHEREAS, After leaving the District Attorney's Office to work as an
Assistant Public Defender for 20 years, John F. Tobin returned in 2008
to serve as Chief Assistant District Attorney; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure, John F. Tobin directed many notable cases,
and was always governed by a keen sense of duty and instinctive probity;
and
WHEREAS, With an outstanding career as both an Assistant District
Attorney and Assistant Public Defender, John F. Tobin has served the
people of Ulster County with loyalty, honor and distinction for over
three decades; he has earned the admiration, esteem and affection of
those with whom he served; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of standards in their profes-
sion, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all the
citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Chief Assistant District Attorney John F. Tobin upon the occa-
sion of his retirement after 32 years of distinguished service to the
people of Ulster County, and to wish him all the best in his future
endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to John F. Tobin.
