LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Arnett Branch Library upon the
occasion of its designation as the 2015 Public Library of the Year by
the Rochester Regional Library Council
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across the great State
of New York is reflective of certain exemplary institutions whose
purpose is dedicated to serving the community and the needs of its citi-
zenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Arnett Branch Library upon the occasion of its designation as the
2015 Public Library of the Year by the Rochester Regional Library Coun-
cil, to be celebrated at its Annual Meeting on Thursday, June 4, 2015,
at Casa Larga, Fairport, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Rochester Regional Library Council (RRLC) is a multi-type
library network serving libraries and library systems in the five-county
Rochester region of Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Wayne and Wyoming coun-
ties; and
WHEREAS, Each year, the RRLC recognizes outstanding libraries which
have provided exceptional service to their communities; and
WHEREAS, A member of the Monroe County Library System, the Arnett
Branch Library has been a focal point for the Nineteenth Ward, with its
20,000 plus population in the Southwest Sector of Rochester, since it
was built in 1973; and
WHEREAS, With an atmosphere of caring, the Arnett Branch Library is
truly a neighborhood library; this vital institution provides such
activities as story time, homework help, Lego club, a teen center, live
music events, computer resources and literacy volunteers, as well as
books, reference help, DVDs and music; and
WHEREAS, In addition, the community room is the site of association
meetings, writers groups, tutoring services, spelling bee preparation
and other activities and opportunities for residents of all ages; and
WHEREAS, A true oasis of learning, civility, technology, resources,
music, art, culture, recreation and education, the Arnett Branch Library
is an integral part of the heart of this urban community, making a
conscientious effort to meet the needs of the diverse citizens and young
people in the ward; and
WHEREAS, The success of the Arnett Branch Library is in direct corre-
lation to the efforts of its staff, whose involvement is, and always has
been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusi-
asm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on
behalf of this institution and the community it serves; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when an insti-
tution of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our atten-
tion, it should be recognized and applauded by all the citizens of this
great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Arnett Branch Library upon the occasion of its designation
as the 2015 Public Library of the Year by the Rochester Regional Library
Council; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Arnett Branch Library, Rochester, New York.
