LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the members of Rotary Interna-
tional of Cohoes, New York upon the occasion of its designation as
recipients of the Distinguished Service Care Award by the City of Cohoes
and Counseling Care and Services

WHEREAS, From time to time, this Legislative Body takes note of certain
individuals and organizations that it wishes to recognize for having
given of their time and energies to serve the best interests of their
communities and to publicly acknowledge their service; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late the members of Rotary International of Cohoes, New York upon the
occasion of its designation as recipients of the Distinguished Service
Care Award at the Care Awards Presentation and Reception, on Friday,
November 7, 2014; and
WHEREAS, In 1927, Rotary International of Cohoes, New York, received
its charter; for 87 years the club has excelled at living out its motto
"Service Above Self"; and
WHEREAS, Rotary International of Cohoes brings together selfless and
dedicated professional leaders and businesses to provide humanitarian
service, encourage the highest in ethical standards, and help build
goodwill and promote peace; and
WHEREAS, Throughout 2014, the members of Rotary International of
Cohoes raised substantial funds to support local organizations, cleaned
up and landscaped Cayuga Plaza, participated in holiday gift collections
for families within the Cohoes School District, donated coats to the
Cohoes Winter Coat Drive, raised money for the Salvation Army, and
distributed meals for the Salvation Army; and
WHEREAS, The members of Rotary International of Cohoes also volun-
teered at a host of other community events including Global Youth
Service Day, the Memorial Day Parade, the Canal Square Concert Series,
and the Cohoes Mastodon 15K Race; and
WHEREAS, Rotary International of Cohoes has been able to make signif-
icant financial contributions to the community at large; the Club
provides an annual scholarship to a graduating Cohoes High School
senior, and for numerous years it has donated a significant amount of
funds to the Cohoes Community Center, the Cohoes Senior Center, the
Cohoes Library, the Salvation Army, the Cohoes Caretakers, and the
Cohoes Music Hall as well as many other organizations; and
WHEREAS, By promoting goodwill, partnership, and friendship, the
members of Rotary International have done an outstanding job of making
the greater Cohoes community a better place to live, work, and play; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the members of Rotary International of Cohoes, New York
upon the occasion of its designation as recipients of the Distinguished
Service Care Award by the City of Cohoes and Counseling Care and
Services; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Rotary International of Cohoes, New York.
