LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Andre M. Maurice posthumously by the New
York State Department of Health at the EMS Memorial Dedication on May
19, 2015
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend the concerned and caring work of citizens who voluntarily assist
in safeguarding the safety and welfare of their neighbors and community;
and
WHEREAS, Volunteer ambulance corps members are an important part of
the safety net of America's healthcare system; they provide lifesaving
care to those in need, 24 hours a day, seven days a week; Andre M.
Maurice was one such member; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Andre M.
Maurice posthumously by the New York State Department of Health, to be
celebrated at the New York State EMS Memorial Dedication Ceremony, on
Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at the Empire State Plaza, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Born on November 18, 1966, to the former Marian Myers, and
the late Emile Maurice, Andre M. Maurice lost his life while in the line
of duty on March 26, 2014, at the age of 48; and
WHEREAS, In 1986, Andre M. Maurice graduated from the former Richmond-
ville Central School; in 2006, he held the position of receiving clerk
for the Town of Richmondville Recycling Center; and
WHEREAS, Andre M. Maurice's commitment to excellence, and his spirit
of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including char-
itable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, A driver and an attendant for the Richmondville Volunteer
Emergency Squad for over two and a half years, and an election inspector
for the Village of Richmondville, Andre M. Maurice distinguished himself
by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community; and
WHEREAS, Andre M. Maurice continually bettered himself by attending
every EMS course which was offered; he was both a certified emergency
vehicle operations technician (CEVO) and trained in the Emergency Vehi-
cles Operators Course (EVOC), as well as certified in CPR and First Aid;
and
WHEREAS, Andre M. Maurice was the recipient of numerous awards and
accolades for his dedicated service to the EMS including the 2012 Member
of the Year, the Life Saving Award, and a Meritus Service Award; and
WHEREAS, An avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, Andre M. Maurice also
enjoyed reading and researching history, playing video games, and watch-
ing NASCAR; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his father, Andre M. Maurice is survived by
his mother, Marian Maurice; two sisters, Karen Possemato and Maria
Jones; and two nephews, William Borthwick, Jr. and Matthew Jones; as
well as two nieces, Kayla Mahoney and Sarah Jones, all of whom will miss
him dearly; and
WHEREAS, A true humanitarian, Andre M. Maurice's generosity was appar-
ent even after his death; he was an organ donor and subsequently, his
big-heartedness helped five individuals lead healthy lives; and
WHEREAS, In the performance of his duties, Andre M. Maurice demon-
strated his character and his compassion for the welfare of others; he
was a tremendous asset to the EMS Unit and a distinguished citizen of
the State and Nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Andre M. Maurice posthumously by the New York State Department of
Health at the EMS Memorial Dedication on May 19, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Andre M. Maurice.
