LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Bernice Mae Nickerson,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of her community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Bernice Mae Nickerson of Binghamton, New York died on Friday,
October 10, 2014 at the age of 92; and
WHEREAS, A 1940 graduate of Binghamton Central High School, Bernice
Mae Nickerson was employed by IBM in Endicott and San Jose, California;
she was a member of the Monday Afternoon Club and active in many organ-
izations; and
WHEREAS, Bernice Mae Nickerson distinguished herself in her profession
and by her sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the
welfare of her community; and
WHEREAS, An avid golfer well into her 80s, Bernice Mae Nickerson was a
great fan of the New York Yankees; she kept a sharp mind and quick wit
over the years with daily puzzles, nightly Jeopardy and weekly bridge;
her family and friends were truly her greatest joy; and
WHEREAS, Bernice Mae Nickerson's commitment to excellence, and her
spirit of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, includ-
ing charitable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by her parents, Herbert and Nellie (Vosburgh)
Stevens, and four sisters, Mabel, Dorothy, Marion and Barbara, Bernice
Mae Nickerson is survived by her husband of 70 years, Curtis; three
children, Curtis (Jodie), Alan (Nancy) and Nancy; six grandchildren,
Gladys, Andrew, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Steven and Meredith; two great-
grandchildren, August and Braxton; as well as many nieces and nephews;
and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit, imbued with a sense of
compassion, and comforted by a loving family, Bernice Mae Nickerson
leaves behind a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and
will remain as a comforting memory to all she served and befriended;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Bernice Mae Nickerson, distinguished citizen and
devoted member of her community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Bernice Mae Nickerson.
