LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Donald R. Kline, distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Donald R. Kline of Livingston, New York, died on Friday,
April 24, 2015, at the age of 79; and
WHEREAS, Born on December 20, 1935, in Hudson, New York, Donald R.
Kline was the son of the late Donald P. and Thelma (Krebs) Kline; and
WHEREAS, Donald R. Kline graduated from Germantown Central School, and
proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army; and
WHEREAS, Following the completion of his military service, Donald R.
Kline joined his father in operating Hopedale Farm; in addition, he
started driving a school bus, and later started his own transportation
business which lasted for 40 years; and
WHEREAS, Upon the death of his father in 1984, Donald R. Kline contin-
ued to expand operations at the apple farm along with his son, Gregory;
and
WHEREAS, Donald R. Kline distinguished himself in his profession and
by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community; he was a member of the Livingston Memorial Church at
Linlithgo, a life member of the Livingston Pumper Company, and a member
of the Germantown Board of Education, as well as Town Councilman; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Donald R. Kline served on the Columbia County
Board of Supervisors and was a member of the Questar Board of Education
for 38 years; and
WHEREAS, Donald R. Kline's commitment to excellence, and his spirit of
humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including charita-
ble and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Donald R. Kline's numerous community activities included the
Lions Club, Livingston Recreation Association, the Columbia Economic
Development Corporation, and the Industrial Development Agency; he was
also a founding member of the Germantown Booster Club; and
WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous accolades for his outstanding
service, Donald R. Kline was honored with the Lucis Cary Service Award,
and the 2009 Lincoln Day Award; and
WHEREAS, A devoted family man, Donald R. Kline is survived by his
wife, the former Sharon Hinkein; two sons, Donald (Bonnie) and Gregory
(Luanne); his grandchildren, Kristine, Gregory, Kelly, Danny, Christo-
pher, and Thomas; and three siblings, Eleanor (Larry), Neil (Karen), and
Virginia (John); as well as several nieces and nephews; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Donald R. Kline leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Donald R. Kline, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Donald R. Kline.
